Both teams are off to solid starts and above .500 as tonight’s game looms. Edmonton vs Calgary highlights an immense 12-game slate of NHL action.

The Flames defeated the Penguins 4-1 on Tuesday night. Edmonton comes off a wild 6-5 win in Chicago on Thursday night where Jack Campbell looked off again but Leon Draisaitl (the birthday boy) picked up the slack with the game-winning goal.

Calgary has had their issues defending against Edmonton, while the Oilers have had a few adventures with Jack Campbell in goal. There’s a high chance that this Oilers vs Flames matchup may see some goals.

Edmonton Oilers Betting Analysis

Edmonton makes hockey fun and certainly not dull. Thursday night against Chicago was one of the wilder games of the young season. Chicago seemed to have an answer every time the Oilers pulled ahead. In the end, Edmonton came back from a 4-3 deficit to win 6-5. Leon Draisaitl provided the game-winning goal on his birthday no less.

At this point, between Connor McDavid and Draisaitl, they have the market cornered on theatrics, especially in Alberta. For those wondering, Draisaitl has 15 points in eight games (four goals, 11 assists) and McDavid has the same with eight goals being the only difference.

The last meeting saw Calgary go up 4-1 then hold off Edmonton over the final two periods. Edmonton needs to get off to a better start. Those have been inconsistent to say the least.

Calgary Flames Betting Analysis

The Calgary Flames endured one heartbreaking elimination at the hands of the Edmonton Oilers. They lost that series in five games including the fifth game in overtime. It was why winning the first regular season meeting was so important to Calgary. That showed the Flames something. A 5-1 start has Calgary fans buzzing.

The problem with Calgary Flames last year was having that player who can truly make a difference. Nazem Kadri’s hot start (four goals, five assists) in six games has been a big reason for the Flames’ 5-1 start. While Jacob Markstrom has been very good in goal, the offense has provided timely scoring (3.67 goals per game).

Also, the Flames will continue to need Kadri and balanced waves of production.  More importantly, Markstrom (+2000) is sixth in the odds to win the Vezina Trophy. Now, the goaltender must get over the trauma of what Draisaitl and McDavid inflicted last year. So far, Markstrom has done just that.

The teams faced off last season in the Western Conference semifinal, with Edmonton winning the series four games to one. Calgary gained a measure of revenge a couple of weeks ago when they held off Edmonton on the road.

Oilers vs Flames Prediction

Edmonton has won two straight to prop themselves up to a 5-3 mark.  Calgary bounced back after a loss to Buffalo as they defeated Carolina in overtime and then Pittsburgh.

The Oilers are projected to start Jack Campbell again. Calgary counters with Markstrom, who expects to face a ton of quality scoring chances. Also, Campbell has yielded four or more goals in four of his five starts. However, his best start was a loss against the St. Louis Blues. The goaltender was pulled in the first meeting. He will want to make his mark in this tilt.

Expect chaos, battles with Kadri and Kane, and probably a good deal of scoring on Saturday night.

Pick: Over 6.5 Goals (-134)
