Rangers Offer Underdog Value in Tuesday NHL Odds

New York is listed as rare road underdogs in the Tuesday NHL odds versus Minnesota. This means they have a 42% implied probability of beating the Wild. The Rangers currently sit second in the Metropolitan Division standings with 77 points in 56 games.

Tuesday will mark only the second time in 10 games that the Rangers are available as plus-money underdogs. New York is currently on an impressive 7-2-1 run that includes a three-game winning streak. Gerard Gallant’s team beat Winnipeg 4-1 in their last game Sunday.

New York’s current winning streak is primarily due to the play of goaltender Igor Shesterkin. Since the start of 2022, Shesterkin has allowed only 27 goals against in 16 games played. The Russian netminder is now a heavy -120 favorite in the updated Vezina Trophy odds.

There’s quite a drop-off from Shesterkin to Georgiev, which is why the Rangers have become heavy underdogs versus the Wild. New York’s backup goalie has allowed at least four goals in each of his last three starts. On the season, Georgiev owns a .897 save percentage in 21 games.

New York is a top-two defensive team based on GAA, but their offense has been inconsistent. The Rangers are only scoring 2.95 goals per game, which is 18th in the league. New York’s top offensive performer is Chris Kreider, who is second in the NHL with 38 goals.

Wild Betting Analysis as Home Favorites

Minnesota is -167 home favorites in the Tuesday NHL odds despite owning a two-game losing streak. The Wild have only managed two total victories in their last 10 games. Despite the current slump, the Wild remain third in the Central Division with 67 points in 54 games. Minnesota are longshots at this point of the season in the NHL Divisional odds to win the Central.

One of the reasons the Wild are favored to beat the Rangers is due to their play on home ice. Minnesota has been one of the best NHL home teams in 2021-22, posting a 16-6-1 record at Xcel Energy Center. They did lose 6-3 to the Stars in their last game on Sunday, however.

Defense and goaltending are the primary reasons the Wild are struggling right now. Minnesota has given up four or more goals in five consecutive contests. Netminder Cam Talbot (.908 SV%, 2.98 GAA) is projected to start in goal vs the Rangers on Tuesday.

Although the Wild are having trouble keeping the puck out of their net, they’re finding ways to light the lamp offensively. Minnesota is the third-highest scoring team in the NHL, averaging 3.69 goals per game. Superstar Kirill Kaprizov leads the way with 70 points in 53 contests.

Rangers vs Wild Pick & Prediction

On the surface, the wrong team appears to be favored in the Rangers vs Wild odds. Sure, Minnesota is a strong home team, but they haven’t won at Xcel Energy Center since Feb. 14 vs Detroit. The Rangers are a solid 17-10-2 on the road in 2021-22.

Taking a look at recent history, we can see the Wild have taken five of the past seven meetings with the Rangers. The only meeting this season was a tightly played contest on Jan. 28 that saw Minnesota win 3-2 at Madison Square Garden.

New York is worth a sprinkle given Minnesota’s struggles, but the best play in this game is the total. This matchup will feature plenty of offensive firepower and two struggling goalies. The Wild are set-up nicely for a breakout performance with Shesterkin getting a rest.

With Georgiev’s lackluster play and Minnesota’s defensive struggles, the “over” is a worthwhile play between New York and Minnesota. Take Over 6.5 goals at Barstool Sportsbook in the Rangers vs Wild odds.
