After the Sabres drew first blood with a fantastic two-goal comeback victory in Game 1, the Bruins notched the series at one game apiece in Game 2. Buffalo then returned the favor Thursday night, skating away with a 3-1 victory to gain the edge in the series.

I’ll admit that usually I have a firmer lean and grasp on what selection I want, but this series has been vexing me. This has been amplified by the Sabres moving off of goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and starting Alex Lyon in Game 3 (24 saves on 25 shots). Will that be the same goalie we get in Game 4, or will Lyon come back down to earth a bit and show why he was the backup?

What I do know is the last four times these two have squared off and they’ve combined for five or fewer goals, the next meeting has gone over 5.5 goals each time. Additionally, four of the last six meetings have resulted in the over cashing.

In the series, B’s goalie Jeremy Swayman has a sparkling .931 save % and 2.38 GAA, while the other crease is very uncertain. Alex Lyon stabilized the Buffalo crease, after he replaced Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen in Game 2 (four goals allowed on 20 shots). In the series, UKL has a crooked .825 save % and 4.19 GAA.

Lyon stopped 24 of 25 pucks in Game 3, as Buffalo skated away with a 3-1 victory. It was the first time in the last four meetings this season that these two didn’t combine for at least six goals. I think Lyon’s fantastic last outing is the outlier, rather than the rule, and Boston will find areas to exploit this time around.

For a prop bet, I’m going on a bigger limb than simply selecting an obvious stud forward to get a point. My selection is Sabres blueliner Bowen Byram to get on the scoresheet. In the first three games of this series, he has three points in three contests, with all of them coming in the last two outings (one goal, two assists).

He’s tied for second in Sabres scoring in the postseason so far. In his last ten duels versus the Bruins, Byram has put up points on six occasions.

I particularly like getting him at plus money for this prop bet. If you’d like to wager on him getting at least one point, plus the over 5.5 goals hitting, that same-game parlay payout is +260.
