- Former NFL sideline reporter Michele Tafoya is running as a Republican for a Senate seat in Minnesota
- Tafoya is trailing Democratic nominee Peggy Flanagan on Kalshi, with over $4.5 million in trades on this Senate race
Former NFL sideline reporter Michele Tafoya is looking to win a Minnesota Senate seat at this year’s midterm elections.
As a Republican nominee, Tafoya’s venture into politics doesn’t seem to be building a lot of momentum, as the Kalshi Minnesota Senate odds show her down heavily to Democratic nominee Peggy Flanagan.
Kalshi, one of the top prediction markets apps, has seen a fair amount of trading in this Senate race market. Over $4.5 million in market trading has occurred, with Tafoya being one of the more well-known Senate candidates in the public eye. Still, the market doesn’t like her chances to win next Tuesday.
Tafoya Trading Below 20% Odds
Tafoya and Flanagan are competing for the Senate seat being left behind by Democratic incumbent Tina Smith, who isn’t seeking reelection. Since the primary elections took place in August, Flanagan has been the favorite on prediction market apps like Kalshi.
Flanagan opened around 90% on Kalshi, but since that time Tafoya has been able to slowly narrow the lead, though not by a great margin. The Tafoya polls have grown in the Kalshi market to 17%, a gain of seven points on her opponent.

Michele Tafoya (R)
Michel Tafoya should be recognizable to most football fans. The 61-year-old Tafoya spent decades working in sports television. Her best-known role was as a sideline reporter for NBC’s Sunday Night Football from 2011 to 2022.
Following her departure from NBC, Tafoya became an outspoken political commentator, expressing many conservative views that ultimately led to her deciding to run for Senator. That includes immigration policies and withholding federal funds from state-run programs that she believes are fraudulent.
Though Tafoya describes herself as someone with libertarian leanings and has expressed pro-choice views in the past, she has been supported by some of the bigger names in the Republican Party, including President Donald Trump.
Though the Kalshi odds are not in her favor, the actual polls in Minnesota only show her down less than 3 points as the election approaches. The Flanagan vs. Tafoya race has seen an equal amount of funds raised; this race should be within reach for the former broadcaster.
Peggy Flanagan (D)
Flanagan was born in Minnesota, and the 47-year-old has served as a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives, while also being the active Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota since 2019.
Flanagan is considered a progressive Democrat who has campaigned on a Medicare-for-all system with lower drug costs. She has also proposed a $17 federal minimum wage, while also being in support of a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Along with her political career, Flanagan is a member of the White Earth Band of Ojibwe and has long been an activist for her tribe.
Flanagan is in a race that has largely been Democratic, as the past two presidential elections have voted blue by at least 4 points. The latest Flanagan vs. Tafoya polls show her comfortably ahead, but Tafoya’s name recognition could carry some sway to make this a tighter race than previous elections in Minnesota.
