  • Charlotte is next on the NASCAR schedule as the Coca-Cola 600 is set to run on Sunday, May 29th, 2022
  • Several contenders are lurking out there including Martin Truex Jr., Kyle Larson, Chase Elliott, and Kyle Busch
  • Below are the Coca-Cola 600 odds and betting trends ahead of Sunday evening’s race

NASCAR treks to Charlotte, North Carolina, for race number 14 of the 2022 season. The race comes from the Charlotte Motor Speedway. The 1.5-mile quad-oval track tends to bring out the barbecue and some dominant performances. Kyle Larson is favored this week with +600 odds in the NASCAR Coca-Cola 600 odds. It does seem like another Hendrick and Gibbs could rumble here with an odd Chevy or Ford.

This is two weeks after the AdventHealth 400, where Kurt Busch stunned everyone including his younger brother to win at Kansas.

Let’s dig into these Coca-Cola 600 odds and figure out which drivers are the best bets.

NASCAR drivers will run on the 1.5-mile Charlotte Motor Speedway when the flag drops for the Sunday evening race beginning around 6:00 PM ET.

Kyle Larson Favorite Again in Coca-Cola 600 Odds

Larson is at the track where everything turned for him last year at Charlotte. The Hendrick Motorsports Racing driver led 327 out of the 400 laps. It was one of the more dominant performances of last season.

Currently, Larson stands at +600 odds (+450 at Caesars). Teammate Chase Elliott is listed at +750. Some shorter odds exist on Caesars Sportsbook, but the top-three Hendrick are all +1000 or shorter. The top three Joe Gibbs’ drivers are at +1000 or shorter as well.

Now, what occurs at the quad-oval on Sunday evening?

The idea is that Hendrick Motorsports should do well again at Charlotte. Can they deliver or will someone crash the party?

Coca-Cola 600 Recent Winners

Year Race Winner Pole Position Most Laps Led
2021 Kyle Larson — Hendrick Motorsports Racing Brad Keselowski — Team Penske Kyle Larson — Hendrick Motorsports Racing
2020 Brad Keselowski — Team Penske Kurt Busch — Chip Ganassi Racing Alex Bowman — Hendrick Motorsports Racing
2019 Martin Truex Jr. — Joe Gibbs Racing William Byron — Hendrick Motorsports Racing Martin Truex Jr. — Joe Gibbs Racing
2018 Kyle Busch — Joe Gibbs Racing Kyle Busch — Joe Gibbs Racing Kyle Busch — Joe Gibbs Racing
2017 Austin Dillon — Richard Childress Racing Kevin Harvick — Stewart-Haas Racing Martin Truex Jr. — Furniture Row Racing

The race is 400 laps in all. Kyle Larson won last year. The Memorial Day weekend staple has gone to overtime once in the last decade (2020).

Can Kyle Busch or Martin Truex Jr. Win at Charlotte?

Sports bettors have seen Kyle Busch remain mostly steady in the top-ten all season. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver still lingers in the NASCAR Cup Series odds and is second in the race odds. (Truex Jr. is fourth.) Furthermore, though Larson attracts more attention, Kyle Busch once swept this race in 2018 – winning the pole, leading the most laps, and taking the checkered flag.

Now, again Toyota’s have won four of the past seven races. The last two were raced under “pandemic rules” so this year could revert back to what we saw between 2015 and 2019.

Coca-Cola 600 Predictions & Picks

This 1.5-mile track has seen Joe Gibbs (or Toyota) drivers and Hendrick Motorsports dominate the past several times out. Brad Keselowski more or less stole the 2020 race. That can happen often at Charlotte. There is one driver we almost forgot.

The weather expects to be relatively tranquil on Sunday night with temperatures falling into the 70s. The last thing to keep an eye on is drivers like William Byron and Alex Bowman. Their ability to lead laps at Charlotte is well documented.

The stage format is 100-100-100-100 for laps. Overtime cannot be ruled out because of the Next-Gen car.

Here are our best bets:

  • Top Pick: Chase Elliott to Win (+750)
  • Other Contenders: Martin Truex Jr. (+900), Ross Chastain (+1100), Kyle Busch (+900), Alex Bowman (+1500)
  • Longshots: Austin Dillon (+5000), Kyle Busch (+2000)
