  • Two Formula 1 bets our model couldn’t pass up this weekend.
  • Why track position matters just as much as outright speed at Spa.

The older I get, the more I appreciate taking the easy route.

When I was younger, I’d carry every grocery bag into the house in one trip. Twenty-five bags hanging from both arms, cutting off circulation to three fingers, refusing to make a second trip out of pure stubbornness.

Now?

I’ll gladly make two trips. Maybe three. My chiropractor probably appreciates the maturity.

That’s kind of how I look at this week’s Belgian Grand Prix betting card.

There are plenty of ways to make life difficult trying to find longshots and miracle bets every race weekend. Sometimes the smarter play is taking the path with fewer opportunities for things to go sideways.

Our model only found two official bets this weekend. One is built around a number that simply offers too much value. The other fades a driver who has the speed to cash but faces one heck of a commute before he can even contend for the ticket.

Let’s get to it. Lights out is set for 9:00 a.m. ET on Sunday on Apple TV.

F1 Belgian Grand Prix Predictions

Franco Colapinto over Pierre Gasly (+159, BetRivers)

This number immediately caught my attention.

Our model projects Pierre Gasly to finish 12th and Franco Colapinto 13th. At first glance, that probably sounds like an argument to back Gasly.

Not necessarily.

One finishing position over the course of 44 laps and 300 kilometers is razor-thin. A slightly slower pit stop, an undercut that works perfectly, a Virtual Safety Car at the wrong time can erase that gap in a heartbeat.

Meanwhile, BetRivers is asking us to believe Colapinto wins this matchup less than 39% of the time.

Our numbers don’t agree.

Gasly deserves to be favored. The price simply asks bettors to pay far too much for a one-position edge.

Those are exactly the kinds of underdogs we want to back over the course of a season. You don’t have to win every bet. You just have to cash more often than the odds expect.

F1 Belgian Grand Prix Long-Shot Pick

Arvid Lindblad over Isack Hadjar (-140 at theScore Bet)

If this matchup started with both drivers on the same row, we’d probably be having a different conversation.

Hadjar has looked every bit as quick as Lindblad this weekend. In fact, I’d probably give him a slight edge on outright pace.

Fortunately for us, Formula 1 doesn’t hand out betting tickets after qualifying.

Lindblad starts eighth.

Hadjar starts 22nd after Red Bull elected to take a power unit penalty.

That’s a long afternoon.

Before Hadjar can even think about chasing Lindblad, he has to work his way past fourteen other Formula 1 cars. At that point, he may qualify for airline miles.

The Red Bull is certainly capable of carving through the field, but teleportation still isn’t part of the 2026 regulations.

Every overtake creates another opportunity for something to go wrong. Dirty air. Tire degradation. Traffic. A stubborn midfield battle. A poorly timed Safety Car. Even one slow pit stop can wipe out several laps of hard work.

Meanwhile, Lindblad’s race is refreshingly straightforward.

Hold position.

Stay in the points.

Make Hadjar come find you.

Formula 1 engineers probably hate seeing a back-of-the-grid penalty.

Sports bettors usually don’t mind them nearly as much.

Final Thoughts

This isn’t the biggest betting card we’ve released all season.

But it is one of the cleanest.

Colapinto gives us a plus-money ticket where the market appears to be overvaluing a razor-thin projected edge for Gasly.

Lindblad benefits from something bettors often overlook. Raw pace matters, but track position matters too. Hadjar may very well have the faster car, yet asking him to recover fourteen positions just to catch Lindblad is a massive assignment, even in a Red Bull.

Sometimes the fastest car doesn’t have the easiest job.

This weekend, we’ll gladly take the driver who does.
