For years, Formula One teams used Barcelona as the measuring stick.

If your car was fast at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, it was probably fast everywhere.

The track demands a little bit of everything. High-speed corners. Long straights. Tire management. Qualifying pace. Race pace.

And this weekend, tire wear has become the biggest story in the paddock.

The degradation has been enormous throughout practice, creating the possibility of multiple strategies and perhaps even a three-stop race on Sunday. That’s great news for Formula One fans and DraftKings players alike, as differing tire strategies often create opportunities for drivers to gain and lose positions throughout the field.

The result should be one of the more entertaining races we’ve seen at Barcelona in quite some time.

Barcelona-Catalunya F1 DFS Picks

Gabriel Bortoleto (Captain) ($5,700) – Start: 12th

The entire lineup starts here.

We’re not expecting Bortoleto to contend for a podium. We aren’t even asking him to challenge the front runners. What we need is a clean race from a driver sitting just outside the points who allows us to spend heavily elsewhere.

Bortoleto starts 12th and appears capable of moving forward. We expect him to find a way around Nico Hulkenberg, and any additional positions gained become a bonus.

More importantly, the discounted captain salary unlocks the lineup’s true objective: a full Mercedes stack.

Sometimes the best captain play isn’t the flashy one. Sometimes it’s the one that lets you afford the drivers who are most likely to dominate the race.

George Russell ($12,400) – Start: 1st

George Russell has been the better Mercedes driver for most of the weekend.

While much of the attention entering Sunday centers around Kimi Antonelli’s five-race winning streak, Russell has consistently looked like the faster of the two Silver Arrows throughout practice and qualifying.

That pace culminated in a spectacular pole-winning lap on Saturday.

Lewis Hamilton starts alongside Russell on the front row, and Ferrari still possesses enough launch performance to make Turn 1 interesting. If Hamilton gets the jump, we expect Russell to run him back down over the course of a stint.

There simply aren’t enough low-speed corners at Barcelona for Ferrari to maximize its strengths over a full race distance.

If Russell maintains track position early, he becomes the favorite to end Antonelli’s winning streak himself.

Mercedes Constructor ($15,000)

This is the foundation of the lineup.

Coming into the weekend, we expected the rising temperatures to create problems for Mercedes. Historically, the team has answered the bell in cooler conditions and struggled as the mercury rises.

Instead, Mercedes has looked like the class of the field.

Russell starts from pole. Antonelli starts third. Both drivers possess race-winning speed.

A Mercedes 1-2 finish remains the most likely outcome on the board, and if that happens, the constructor position becomes one of the highest-scoring plays available.

When we’re building around a dominant team, we want maximum exposure to that dominance.

That’s exactly what we’re getting here.

Arvid Lindblad ($4,400) – Start: 11th

Lindblad may be the best value play on the slate.

The Racing Bulls driver left some meat on the bone in qualifying and never got the opportunity to put together the lap he needed at the end of Q2. As a result, he starts 11th despite showing significantly more pace throughout the weekend.

The points are well within reach.

We also expect him to finish ahead of teammate Liam Lawson, creating another path toward fantasy production.

At $4,400, we’re willing to bet on the upside.

Isack Hadjar ($6,400) – Start: 6th

Let’s be honest about the teammate bonus.

Hadjar starts alongside Max Verstappen.

We’re not building this lineup because we think Hadjar is going to beat Verstappen over a race distance. If that happens, great. We’ll happily take the bonus points and move on with our day.

But that’s not the bet.

The bet is that Hadjar remains one of the better values on the board regardless of what Verstappen does. Starting sixth, he has a realistic path to another strong finish and should spend most of the afternoon comfortably inside the points.

At $6,400, we’re willing to sacrifice some teammate bonus equity in exchange for a driver who can return value through finishing position alone.

Pierre Gasly ($6,000) – Start: 14th

Gasly starts alongside teammate Franco Colapinto, and we expect him to win that battle.

While Alpine hasn’t shown front-running pace, Barcelona’s expected tire degradation should create opportunities for midfield teams willing to execute alternative strategies.

The points are a stone’s throw away.

Gasly doesn’t need a spectacular afternoon to justify this salary. A clean race, a teammate victory and a modest gain in track position would be enough.

Mercedes wins Sunday.
