Leclerc Looks to Build on Solid Montreal Performance

The Ferrari duo of Leclerc and Carlos Sainz Jr have found themselves tumbling from championship contenders at the beginning of the season to their current position as the No. 4 team on the F1 Constructors Standings. The Prancing Horse has not emerged as a threat to win so far this season, and has been overtaken by a revitalized Aston Martin squad led by Fernando Alonso, as well as a Mercedes, which has wasted no time making upgrades in a bid to close the gap on Red Bull.

Despite those challenges, Leclerc turned in a respectable fourth-place finish two weeks ago at the Canadian Grand Prix. The Monte Carlo native has also earned three trips to the podium in his past five appearances in Austria. While that has helped bolster his Austrian Grand Prix odds, including his +240 odds to return to the podium, this team has yet to prove they can maintain pace and get out of their own way in their bid to reclaim their position as contenders.

Can Checo Bounce Back?

Sergio Perez maintains a slender grasp on second place in the F1 Drivers Standings, but has a mountain to climb to overcome his recent struggles in qualifying. “Checo” has now failed to advance to the third round of qualifying in each of his past three outings. He also struggled in qualifying in Austria a year ago, when he was relegated to the No. 13 spot on the grid for exceeding track limits during Q2.

With the sprint shootout planned for this weekend once again playing no role in determining the grid for Sunday’s race, the talented Mexican’s hopes hinge on his ability to perform well in Friday’s qualifying session. Accordingly, it is tough to find much value in Checo’s short odds to win this race, or his -440 odds to reach the podium for the first time in four outings.

Lando Norris Offers Value

Speaking of struggling teams, things got no better for the McLaren duo of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri in Montreal, While the duo managed to qualify among the top ten, they were unable to carry over that success into Sunday’s race, which they finished 13th and 11th, respectively.

However, Norris should not be overlooked in his return to Red Bull Ring, where he has claimed a spot among the top six on three of four appearances including a third-place finish in 2020. While a +650 bet on Norris to finish top six is not for the faint of heart, the 23-year-old Englishman offers solid value as a -105 wager to finish in the points.

The Picks: Max Verstappen Hat Trick – Win/Fastest Qualifier/Fastest Lap (+195); Lando Norris top ten finish (-105)
