Pocono Raceway is known as “The Tricky Triangle.”

Which sounds intimidating until you realize most of us learned triangles in third grade.

Unfortunately, nobody told the crew chiefs.

Every summer, NASCAR’s annual trip to northeastern Pennsylvania turns into an advanced calculus exam disguised as a stock car race. Three corners. Three different banking profiles. Three different radii. Add fuel mileage, stage strategy, and the threat of rain, and suddenly everybody is searching for a calculator.

Pocono races eventually become fuel mileage races in the same way that every family vacation eventually becomes an argument about where to eat.

Nobody plans for it at the start of the day, but somehow that’s where we always end up.

With the start time moved from 3 p.m. ET to 1 p.m. ET in an effort to stay ahead of the weather, there’s an even greater chance strategy plays a major role in deciding Sunday’s Great American Getaway 400.

That’s why we’re taking a slightly different approach in DFS this week.

Great American Getaway 400 DFS Strategy

With only 160 laps scheduled, we’re not expecting dominator points to carry the same importance they do at tracks like Charlotte or Michigan. Pocono’s unique layout often produces multiple strategies throughout the field, and teams are rarely shy about sacrificing stage points in exchange for better track position later in the race.

Instead of chasing a lineup full of potential lap leaders, we’re focusing primarily on drivers with significant place-differential upside and enough race-day speed to capitalize on whatever strategy unfolds.

The DraftKings NASCAR Cup Series contest features a $20 entry fee and $100,000 awarded to first place.

NASCAR DFS Picks and Projections

Tyler Reddick ($10,300) – Start: 16th

If we’re going to pay for one driver capable of collecting meaningful dominator points, Reddick is the choice.

One model projects a 6.06 finish while the other lands at 7.70. Toyota has consistently shown elite speed on this track type, and Reddick enters the race with arguably the strongest combination of raw pace and upside in the field.

Even if the dominator points are spread across multiple strategies, Reddick has enough speed to spend significant time near the front while still offering place differential from his 16th-place starting position.

Chase Elliott ($9,200) – Start: 23rd

Nothing about Elliott’s weekend has looked particularly impressive on paper. The practice speeds were underwhelming and qualifying didn’t help matters. Still, this is exactly the type of race where Elliott and crew chief Alan Gustafson tend to find a way.

Whether it’s fuel strategy, pit timing, or simply maximizing track position, Elliott consistently seems to outperform mediocre weekends. Our model still projects him inside the top eight, creating significant place-differential upside from a 23rd-place starting spot.

Carson Hocevar ($8,700) – Start: 26th

Hocevar continues to make life difficult for DFS players because the ceiling remains enormous.

One model projects a 10.01 average finish while another lands at 13.33. More importantly, Hocevar ranked second overall in our practice metric. The speed appears legitimate and starting 26th leaves plenty of room to score position differential points if that pace carries into the race.

Bubba Wallace ($8,000) – Start: 38th

Wallace’s qualifying session ended badly enough that he’ll roll off from the final position in the field.

The encouraging part is that our models don’t appear particularly concerned.

Despite starting 38th, Wallace still projects as a fringe top-10 finisher. That’s the type of profile we target aggressively in DFS. If the speed remains intact and the race becomes the strategy-heavy affair we’re expecting, Wallace has a realistic path to one of the best point-per-dollar scores on the slate.

Brad Keselowski ($7,900) – Start: 37th

This may end up being one of the most popular plays on the slate.

The practice speeds were ugly. Qualifying was ugly. The starting position is even uglier.

The good news is that Keselowski has spent most of his career proving that race-day execution matters more than Friday and Saturday speed charts. Our model projects a finish of 11.97 despite everything that went wrong leading into Sunday.

Keselowski also isn’t afraid to get creative with strategy, and Pocono is one of the few tracks where a strategy gamble can completely reshape a race. Starting 37th gives him one of the highest floors and ceilings on the board.

Austin Dillon ($5,800) – Start: 32nd

Dillon isn’t a driver we typically target for raw speed, but the starting position creates a path to value. One model projects him to finish 32nd, while another lands at 21.19. We don’t need a miracle at this salary. A clean race and a finish in the low-20s would be enough to justify the investment while opening salary for higher-upside options elsewhere.
