  • England are 37-point favorites over Italy in Six Nations rugby action on Saturday, February 13th (9:15 am ET)
  • In 27 meetings, the English are 27-0 against the Italians
  • The average margin of victory in those 27 matches is 28.4 points per game

Coming to play in England, Italy knew it would be in for a rough afternoon. Arriving to face an angry English side only figures to make matters worse for the Italians.

Round 2 of Six Nations rugby competition gets underway Saturday with Italy away to England. Both sides come into this match 0-1 for the tournament, and that’s problematic for Italy.

Italy was throttled 50-10 at home by France in its opening match. England was also home to open the tournament and shockingly lost 11-6 to Scotland.

At home, England is a 37-point favorite over Italy. The last time Italy visited England in the 2019 Six Nations, the English were 57-14 winners.

A Similar Start

The English also began last year’s Six Nations competition by taking a setback. They lost 24-17 away to France.

The loss to Scotland took on a much different feel. It was the first time the Scottish sampled victory at Twickenham since 1983.

Coupled with a 38-38 draw in 2019, it marked the first time in England-Scotland rugby history that the Scottish went two successive matches at Twickenham without tasting defeat.

England were held without a try. Scotland matched England’s physical play, a factor that traditionally works in favor of the English.

Feasting On Italian

Italy is truly the free spot on the Six Nations bingo card. The loss to France extended Italy’s losing streak in Six Nations competition to 28 matches.

The last win by the Italians was a 22-19 verdict over Scotland in 2015.  Already, bettors can access +100000 odds on Italy winning the Six Nations.

A side thin on depth, manager Franco Smith’s Italian squad is young and inexperienced. Italy displayed plenty of stage fright in the defeat to France and are likely in for another rough, winless ride in this year’s Six Nations.  They surrendered seven tries in the loss to the French.

English Over Easy

England is facing Italy for the 28th time. The English have won all 27 meetings by an average margin of 28.4 points per game.

Since an 18-11 English win at Twickenham in 2013 – the closest margin ever in an England-Italy match – the average score of the ensuing seven matches was 44.5-12.2 in favor of the English.

English manager Eddie Jones was facing strong criticism was his side’s static style of play following the loss to Scotland. There was speculation that captain Owen Farrell might be dropped following his indifferent performance against the Scottish. However, Jones gave his skipper a vote of confidence.

England did call up forwards Mako Vunipola and Kyle Sinckler for the Italy match. It shouldn’t matter who the English suit up, though. They’ll be frothing at the mouth to get after the Italians and run up a big score.

Pick: England -37 (-105)
