It’s Australia vs Denmark on Wednesday, November 30 in the final round of Group D fixtures in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. It all kicks off in the Al Janoub Stadium at 10am ET.

Everything is on the line in this group, with second-placed Australia knowing a win will guarantee them a place in the last 16 for only the second time. Denmark, meanwhile, are still without a win and only three points will do if they are to give themselves a chance of qualification.

We preview Australia vs Denmark, look at the World Cup odds, and offer some analysis, team news, and picks below.

Australia vs Denmark Preview

Australia’s 1-0 win over Tunisia on Matchday 2 has put them in a great position to qualify for the knockout phase for only the second time ever – the last time was in 2006 – but they still have a job to do against the win-less Danes.

A draw will probably be enough, barring a freak win for the Tunisians over France, and this could be a good thing as the Aussies have a very poor record against European opposition – losing eight of their last 11 games. They did however manage a 1-1 with the Danes in the group stages in Russia 2018.

A First Clean Sheet in Finals Since 1974!

On that basis of a draw being good enough, a solid defensive performance could well see them through and so they will be buoyed by the clean sheet they kept against Tunisia – their first in a World Cup finals tournament since 1974.

At the other end of the pitch, they have looked dangerous and it’s worth noting that despite eventually losing 4-1 to France in their opening game, they did take the lead in that game.

Disappointment for the Danes

Despite Denmark qualifying for the tournament with the most points in UEFA qualification, they’ve had a disappointing opening two games – drawing 0-0 with Tunisia in their opener and then losing 2-1 to France.

They will have taken some encouragement from the France defeat though, as they played well and were only beaten by a Kylian Mbappe goal scored just four minutes from the end of normal time.

Danes Hoping to Replicate Their Euro 2020 Heroics

So all is far from lost for Kasper Hjulmand’s men who made it to the semifinals of last summer’s European Championships despite losing their first two group games. It then took a phenomenal performance from them in their third game, against Russia, to see them qualify, and so will be hoping that history repeats itself.

A win against Australia would end a miserable run of five World Cup finals games without a win, and for that to happen they will be relying heavily on Christian Eriksen, who created five goalscoring opportunities in the Tunisia game.

Australia vs Denmark Prediction

Denmark have no option but to go for it against the Aussies, and this may work in their favor. Their performance level against the French was good, despite the final score, and more of the same but with the handbrake off would likely be enough to edge a win.

Despite Australia’s tempting odds, for me the value lies with the Danes and a narrow victory.

Pick: Denmark to win (-210) / Denmark to win 2-1 (+850)
