  • Bayer Leverkusen and Real Betis go head-to-head in Matchday 4 of the Europa League
  • The teams are level on points at the top of Group G after three matches
  • Read below for the latest Leverkusen vs Betis odds, a betting preview and a pick

Only goal difference separates Bayer Leverkusen and Real Betis heading into Matchday 4. The sides drew 1-1 on Matchday 3 in Spain, and they meet again on Thursday at the BayArena.

The odds favor Leverkusen despite their poor recent form. Both teams are undefeated in the group stage so far, however, and they will remain the top two in Group G regardless of the result on Matchday 4 as Celtic are four points behind. A victory for either will confirm their place in the last 16, but they will be well-positioned to progress even with a defeat.

This is Real Betis’ first competitive match in Germany since the 1995-96 season when they beat FC Kaiserslautern in both matches of a two-legged UEFA Cup tie. Bayer Leverkusen have traditionally struggled against Spanish opposition, winning just 11 of their 40 matchups with La Liga sides.

Gerardo Seoane has seen his team fail to win in five straight matches, and he’s currently without Karim Bellarabi, Patrik Schick, Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Exequiel Palacios, Charles Aranguiz and Julian Baumgartlinger.

With such a shortage of options in midfield and the final third, Seoane will be delighted to welcome back Moussa Diaby after he was suspended at the weekend. Leverkusen have switched to 4-2-3-1 of late. Diaby should slot in on the right flank with Paulinho and Florian Wirtz in support of Lucas Alario.

Betis has a much shorter injury list, with Youssouf Sabaly as the only confirmed absentee. It was a surprise to see Nabil Fekir benched against Atletico at the weekend, but the French playmaker is expected to return to the XI for Thursday’s trip to Germany.

The Form Book

That game with Atletico ended in a 3-0 defeat for Los Verdiblancos, which was just their third league defeat of the campaign. Winning six and drawing three of their first 12 in La Liga, Manuel Pellegrini’s team have been consistent across domestic and European action. Attack has been the best form of defense thus far with Betis ranking second in La Liga in expected goals.

The threat posed by their attack was on show in the opening matches of the Europa League with seven goals scored across the first two matchdays.

While Betis will not be too downbeat about a defeat to Atletico, Leverkusen have hit some major problems of late. They won eight of Seoane’s first 10 competitive matches in charge to start the season, but their expected numbers suggested regression was on its way and it has hit them hard.

Losing to Bayern and drawing with Betis was hardly worthy of panic. Since then, though, Die Werkself has drawn with Koln before defeats to Karlsruher and Wolfsburg.

Take the Visitors

The first match between these teams was relatively even. Leverkusen edged the possession. Betis had three more shots. Injuries are clearly going to play a role on Thursday with Leverkusen missing so many potential starters. This is a team low on confidence, and Seoane could do with the extra options.

Home advantage is obviously a factor for bettors to consider, though it’s worth noting that Betis have lost just two of their six away matches in La Liga, while Leverkusen have picked up just six of 15 available points at home in the Bundesliga.

For two teams so evenly matched, Betis clearly represent the better value for this one. We’re tempted by the moneyline, but let’s play it safe with the double chance.

Pick: Real Betis double chance (-120)
