Can Canada Bounce Back?

Without a doubt, Canada is easily the most impressive country in CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying. Before Thursday’s dismal defeat, John Herdman’s side had a 7-4-0 record, beating the two giants of the octagon along the way in Mexico and the US. The most surprising part? They took down the States without Alphonso Davies, their best player on both ends of the pitch.

The pressure of an entire country was on Canada’s shoulders heading into San Jose. While the Canucks are still in top spot because of a draw between Mexico and the United States, it wasn’t an ideal result for Herdman’s group. Early on, Kaye went in for a careless tackle and received a yellow. Then not long after, the Colorado Rapids midfielder played right into the hands of Costa Rica, bumping shoulders with one of their players which resulted in a red card. From that point on, it was always going to be tough for Canada.

Just before the halftime whistle, Celso Borges headed home for the visitors, but the Canucks had no shortage of chances to draw level in the final 45. In fact, they controlled 68% of the ball despite being down a man and racked up 18 attempts. However, just three found the target. That being said, the Canadians will be extremely motivated to respond on Sunday, with a berth in Qatar calling their name.

Jamaica Looking to Play Spoiler

The Jamaicans currently sit in seventh spot in qualifying, which means they’re already out of contention for Qatar. Unfortunately, the Reggae Boyz come into this clash in poor form as well, going winless in their last seven games. Paul Hall’s men did salvage a few draws during this span though, most recently against El Salvador.

The visitors quickly got on the scoresheet in the first half when Eriq Zavaleta netted in the 23rd minute, but Queens Park Rangers frontman Andre Gray helped Jamaica salvage a point with a fine finish late in the second period. The Jamaicans enjoyed their fair share of opportunities, but the end product lacked.

With the World Cup completely in the rearview, this is a chance for the Reggae Boyz to play spoiler and make Canada wait a little bit longer to secure their spot in Qatar. Jamaica has won three of their last five against the Canucks, which is certainly a positive sign.

Canada vs Jamaica Prediction

Honestly, this is a no-brainer. Canada is still in top form despite the loss, while Jamaica is struggling to find any type of results. The moneyline offers little value though. Considering how solid the hosts are defensively and Jamaica’s lack of finishing, the Canucks should be able to secure the three points and keep a clean sheet. This is a different Canadian team of the past. The Reggae Boyz won’t stand a chance.

Pick: Canada to Win Nil (+102)
