With an unbeaten start through the first two Champions League games, Italian champions AC Milan pay a visit to London’s Stamford Bridge on Wednesday to lock horns with 2021 Champions League winners Chelsea, who are surprisingly bottom of Group E and without a win so far.
Defeat in the opening match against Dinamo Zagreb led the Blues’ owners to fire Thomas Tuchel, replacing the Champions League-winning manager with Graham Potter, who is set to take charge of just his second match at this level.
Neither Chelsea nor Milan figure prominently in this year’s Champions League odds, although the Blues opened the competition as heavy -335 favorites to win Group E, with Milan owning the second-best odds at +325.

Over/Under and Spread
Although a small sample size, Chelsea is unbeaten in two games under their new head coach and will rely heavily on the home support to see off Milan here. The two teams have kept just three clean sheets between them this season, so expect goals here, with the -125 listed for Over 2.5 goals heavily warranted and likely worth backing. And with Milan not necessarily needing to go for broke here, with four points through two games, backing the Italian champions with +110 odds on a +0.5 spread seems like a smart bet too.

Crazy Eights At Play
If there’s one stat that Chelsea fans are likely clinging to, it’s that their team has gone eight games without defeat at Stamford Bridge, with the Blues’ last home loss coming back in April when Arsenal won 4-2 there.
However, Rossoneri fans are likely also clinging to a crazy eight stat of their own, with Milan having gone eight games away from home without defeat. However, Milan have fared anything but well on their European travels in England, with the seven-time Champions League victors achieving just one victory – at Old Trafford against Manchester United in 2005 – in 20 games in England. The other 19 games resulted in 12 defeats and seven draws, so the Home of Football has been anything but a happy hunting ground for the Rossoneri.
Deja-vu for Blues?
Chelsea have made their worst start to a Champions League campaign since the 1999-2000 season, which was also the last time they played AC Milan in this competition.

The two teams drew their two encounters, and since then Chelsea have enjoyed decent success against Italian teams, with the last Serie A side to beat Chelsea in London being Inter Milan, who triumphed 1-0 at Stamford Bridge 12 years ago.

Chelsea vs AC Milan Pick
The two teams have experienced very different starts to their respective new seasons. While Chelsea stumbled out of the blocks, losing three games and switching managers, the Italian champions have purred into life, losing just one of their first eight games, and positioning themselves for success both at home and abroad. AC Milan doesn’t have to win at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, and will likely do enough to frustrate a desperate home side.
