  • Matchday 3 of the Europa League takes place on Thursday, October 6
  • Several groups are delicately poised, and some teams can move to within touching distance of the knockout phase with victory
  • Read below for the latest Europa League odds and our UEL picks for Matchday 3

Thursday brings 16 Europa League matches to dive into. Six teams are looking to move onto nine points, which would put them one result away from a place in the next round. Eight sides have no points on the board through the first two matchdays, leaving them fighting for their futures in the competition.

Fixtures are coming at a relentless rate with the calendar congested ahead of the World Cup in Qatar. There is little time for teams to train or recuperate between matches — will that contribute to some surprise results on Matchday 3 for our Europa League picks?

Arsenal are the biggest favorites in Matchday 3 Europa League odds at -455 to beat Bodo/Glimt. The Gunners are closely followed by Manchester United, who are -435 away to Omonia Nicosia despite their humiliation in the Manchester derby at the weekend. According to the oddsmakers, the most competitive matches of Thursday are Feyenoord on the road against Midtjylland and HJK hosting Ludogorets.

Goals are expected for Arsenal’s fixture with Bodo/Glimt with the total set at 3.5, and the same goes for PSV Eindhoven’s trip to Zürich with a short price of -180 on over 2.5 goals.

Roma vs Real Betis Prediction

Roma have won one and lost one in the Europa League, but they come into this match off a come-from-behind win over Inter at San Siro at the weekend. Real Betis have a 100% record through the first two matchdays and have started well domestically, though they lost to Celta Vigo at the weekend.

These sides were expected to progress when the draw was made, and are clearly the strongest teams in the group. Roma, though, will be in a difficult spot if they lose this match with Ludogorets also on three points and facing HJK on Thursday.

Jose Mourinho isn’t expected to make any changes to the team which defeated Inter. Mourinho guided Roma to the Europa Conference League title last season and will be eyeing another deep run in this competition. The visitors are also expected to name a strong side, knowing a win can move them into a commanding position in Group C.

Having conceded just one goal in four home matches across Serie A and the Europa League, Roma is full of confidence coming into this fixture and looks a good bet to take all three points. Betis have lost two of three on the road and failed to score at the weekend. There’s value on the moneyline, but the long odds on Roma to win to nil are tempting.

Pick: Roma to win to nil (+210)

Freiburg vs Nantes Prediction

Nantes have one win in nine Ligue 1 matches and lost 3-0 to Qarabag on Matchday 2. Freiburg, meanwhile, is flying in the Bundesliga, has won both of their Europa League matches, and hasn’t suffered defeat since mid-August. The home team is heavy favorites unsurprisingly.

Nantes were thumped 4-1 by Monaco at the weekend — this is a team desperately low on confidence, and one can’t help but wonder about Antoine Kombouaré’s future. Freiburg is at the opposite end of the form spectrum, defeating Mainz at the weekend to go level on points with Union Berlin at the top of the Bundesliga.

The home team is not exactly free-scoring, but Nantes’ defense has been shaky, and Freiburg have kept three clean sheets in four matches. This looks tailor-made for the hosts to win by a couple of goals, with 2-0 looking like a decent score prediction. As such, bettors can choose between Freiburg -1.5 at +150 and the hosts to win to nil at +160.

Pick: Freiburg -1.5 (+150)

Rennes vs Dynamo Kyiv Prediction

Rennes are unbeaten in seven matches in all competitions, including taking four points from their two Europa League contests. They are in a good position in Group B as they face a Dynamo Kyiv side that has lost to Fenerbahce and Larnaca. Dynamo have won their last two in the league (both 1-0), but they have struggled on the continental stage and are underdogs here.

If anything, Rennes’ form downplays how they have performed. Only Lens and PSG have a better expected goal difference per 90 in Ligue 1. It took a 91st-minute goal from Enner Valencia for Fenerbahce to steal a draw at Roazhon Park on Matchday 2.

Both teams have scored in nine of Rennes’ last 10 matches. The home side have the quality to secure a victory, but it is also likely they concede at least once.

Pick: Rennes to win and both teams to score (+235)
