Poland vs Netherlands Preview

Poland isn’t in great shape in the Nations League thus far, but in fairness, they’ve landed in a quite difficult group. Their only win came against Wales on Matchday 1 on home soil, with Karol Swiderski bagging the winner. Since then, Czesław Michniewicz’s men were throttled by Belgium, tied the Dutch, then lost again to the Red Devils.

Coming into Thursday though, the Poles have a relatively healthy squad. Aston Villa defender Matty Cash, who recently started playing for the nation, is the only notable absence. Barcelona star Robert Lewandowski will be looking to carry over his fantastic domestic form, while Jan Bednarek of Villa as well is set to be the main man at the back. These games are not only important to try and stay competitive in the Nations League but to prepare for the World Cup in Qatar, which isn’t far away.

The Netherlands are flying high in this competition, remaining unbeaten through four matches. Memphis Depay scored a winner at the death against Wales on Matchday 4, but since then, he’s failed to see many minutes at Barca following the arrival of Lewandowski.

Nevertheless, Louis van Gaal’s side is in top form at the moment. They’re riding a 13-game unbeaten run dating back to Euro 2020, where the Oranje lost in the round of 16 to the Czech Republic. That was their last defeat. Goals haven’t been a problem, scoring 11 in four outings. Virgil van Dijk and Matthijs de Ligt will anchor the defense, but it’ll be interesting to see how the duo fare after a sub-par start to the term for their respective clubs. Georginio Wijnaldum is the only absence for van Gaal.

Poland vs Netherlands Pick

The Dutch are playing far too well in recent memory to bet against. The quality throughout their team is just frankly better than Poland and van Gaal essentially has a full-strength squad to choose from. Take the visitors, but also splash some money on the over. It’s worth it given the history of past meetings.

Pick: Netherlands (-103), Over 2.5 Goals (-125)
