Matchday 3 of the 2021/22 Premier League campaign is upon us. Manchester City host Arsenal to lead off the weekend ahead of five fixtures kicking off at 10:00 am ET. Aston Villa vs Brentford is the pick of those five before Liverpool welcome Chelsea in the last Saturday match.

Treated to three matches on Sunday, there’s a clash of footballing philosophy as Leeds travel east to Burnley. Nuno Espirito Santo looks to continue his strong start as Spurs manager as the north London club face newly promoted Watford. To wrap up the weekend, Manchester United head south to take on a Wolves side which hasn’t scored in its first two matches.

Manchester City vs Arsenal Prediction

Although without Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden, Manchester City are still comfortable favorites for the visit of Arsenal on Premier League Matchday 3. The Gunners have lost both of their matches to nil so far this season, and have their own selection issues. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang should return to the starting lineup after a hat-trick in midweek, but Thomas Partey, Ben White and Gabriel remain on the sidelines. Kieran Tierney and Bukayo Saka are both doubts.

City have won their last five against Arsenal at the Etihad. Their search for a striker continues, but the attack was in fine form as they thumped Norwich 5-0 last weekend. There are rumors about Raheem Sterling’s future, but he’s expected to start down the middle on Saturday. Coming off a goal against the Canaries and a brilliant Euros campaign, he’s a good bet to score anytime at +150.

The hosts will control this one from start to finish. Aubameyang has troubled City’s high line in the past, which will put some bettors off City winning to nil at +100. It should still be a one-sided match, though, which makes City to win both halves a good bet.

Pick: City to win both halves (+170)

Aston Villa vs Brentford Prediction

Leon Bailey, Ollie Watkins Trezeguet and Bertrand Traore are out for the hosts. The Villains thrashed Barrow in the Carabao Cup in midweek, following on from a 2-0 win against Newcastle last weekend. They face a Brentford side yet to concede in the Premier League, and who have a settled starting lineup. Thomas Frank will likely name the same XI for the third straight league match.

Brentford have been incredibly impressive in their two matches so far. They are just seventh in expected goals against. Aston Villa are fifth by the same metric.

Of course, we’re dealing with tiny sample sizes, but the defensive stability of the Bees should not be downplayed. With Villa missing key attacking talent, they could struggle to create chances. Dean Smith’s team have generated just 2.2 expected goals thus far.

Under 2.5 goals carries some value at -115. Villa were involved in a five-goal encounter with Watford in their season opener, though, which suggests it’s best to look elsewhere. The return of fans has boosted home advantage, but with important absences, and with how solid Brentford have looked, the visitors to avoid defeat looks a solid option here.

Pick: Brentford or draw (-120)

Wolves vs Manchester United Prediction

Manchester United are unbeaten in 27 Premier League away matches. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are coming off a meek performance against Southampton last time out, though they could welcome Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho into the starting XI at Molineux.

Consecutive 1-0 defeats to start to the season hasn’t exactly inspired confidence in Wolves. The return of Daniel Podence in midweek gives Bruno Lage another useful attacking option, but this match is more likely to be a challenge of their defense. It will be a familiar pattern to this fixture with Manchester United dominating possession throughout. This will be a real test of the Red Devils’ ability to break down a low block.

Just five goals have been scored in the last five meetings between these two sides. Three of those came in their matchup at the end of last season. Wolves’ defensive approach and Manchester United’s uninspiring attacking performance against Southampton suggests another low-scoring affair on Premier League Matchday 3.

Pick: Under 2.5 goals (-120)
