Two under-achieving big-name outfits meet in Sevilla vs Valencia as Spain’s La Liga helps kick off the new campaign on Friday. Read on for our Sevilla vs Valencia predictions here.

Sevilla – often a contender for European places – finished way down in 12th spot last season.

However, its domestic disappointment was eased by the fact it won the Europa League for the seventh time. It beat Roma on penalties in the final.

Meanwhile, Valencia has not been so successful in recent times and finished 16th last season.

It was its worst finish since it was relegated in the 1984-85 season.

The game kicks off at 4:00 pm ET at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan with Almeria hosting Rayo Vallecano earlier in the day.

Sevilla vs Valencia Over/Under & Spread

Sevilla scored only 47 times in its 38-game La Liga campaign last season.

However, it has retained the services of last season’s 17-goal top marksman, the Moroccan Youssef Em-Nesyri.

Valencia hit 42 goals but one of its leading scorers – seven-goal Justin Kluivert has departed for EPL side Bournemouth.

Samuel Lino also scored seven times for the team on loan but has now returned to Atletico Madrid.

Neither of their two main signings – Cenk Ozkacar (midfield) and Pepelu (midfield) is a striker.

So goals may again be hard to come by.

Among the Total Goals offers, there is a price of +115 for there to be three strikes or more (Over 2.5).

There is an offer of +220 for there to be one goal only (Under 1.5).

Sevilla is offered at +265 to win by two goals or more (Spread -1.5).

Meanwhile, Valencia is priced at +270 to win by one goal or more (Spread -0.5).

Sevilla vs Valencia Preview

Most observers expect Sevilla to return to its familiar position competing for the top four places this season.

Its coach, Jose Luis Mendilibar, saved the campaign after arriving halfway through last season.

Significantly, under his guidance, the team gradually turned around a poor start.

The team won eight, drew six and lost only three matches once he was in command- crowning the season with the Europa League triumph in Budapest.

This was won with a 4-1 victory in the penalty shoot-out after a 1-1 draw against Jose Mourinho’s Roma outfit.

The team’s new signings include $17 million defender Loic Bade from Rennes of France and $14 million midfielder Djibril Sow from Eintracht Frankfurt.

This is not a major outlay but the club hierarchy is relying on the wisdom of 62-year-old coach Mendilibar to maintain the side’s good form.

It has had a mixed time in pre-season with three wins, three draws and two draws.

Its final warm-up game was a 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid in San Francisco on a US tour in which it also drew 1-1 with Crystal Palace and defeated Real Betis 1-0.

Valencia enjoyed four straight wins in pre-season before a 2-1 home defeat by Aston Villa last weekend.

Its major signing has been the capture of US international defender Yunas Musah who has arrived from AC Milan for $26 million.

No major forward has been recruited.
