Germany will be looking to bounce back from a shock defeat to Colombia when they lock horns with winless South Korea on Matchday 3 Thursday at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The kick-off here is scheduled for 6 AM ET at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.

The Germans throttled Morocco 6-0 before a stunning loss to Colombia on Sunday thanks to a dramatic winner from the South Americans in injury time. Technically, a draw could be good enough in this fixture, depending on what happens between the Colombians and Moroccans. Meanwhile, the South Koreans have a tall task ahead of them with zero points after two games, but technically still have a shot to advance.

South Korea vs Germany Preview

It’s been a disappointing tournament for South Korea, who are making their third straight appearance at the Women’s World Cup. First, it was a 2-0 defeat at the hands of group leaders Colombia before falling by a goal to Morocco. The side hasn’t scored quite yet Down Under and will have a tall task ahead of them playing a strong German squad.

The Tigresses of Asia were held winless in the 2019 edition as well, losing all three games and only netting a mere one time in the process. They actually dominated possession against the Moroccans on Matchday 2 and had a whopping 16 chances, but not a single one hit the target. The attack has been rather toothless. The Koreans now head into this game with six straight defeats in the World Cup and honestly, even a draw would be considered a respectable result here.

Germany is considered one of the best teams in the tournament and they surely showed their quality in the opener, putting six past the Moroccans in a truly clinical performance. Wolfsburg star Alexandra Popp stole the spotlight as expected, netting a brace in the first half.

But, the Germans came out extremely flat against Colombia and it hurt them. Linda Caicedo opened the scoring early in the second half with arguably the goal of the competition thus far before Popp equalized in the 89th minute from the spot. However, the Colombians had other plans in mind and ultimately won it at the death.

As previously mentioned, a draw could very well do the trick Thursday. That being said, if Morocco did beat Colombia and the Germans didn’t snatch three points, they would be going home. Moral of the story? Just secure a victory. The good news is they’ve won eight of their last nine against Asian opponents at the WWC and have never tasted defeat in the final group stage game of a World Cup.

South Korea vs Germany Predictions

While Germany has had some questionable defeats at times, I do expect them to win here. However, the moneyline offers minimal value in the South Korea vs Germany odds. Considering how poor South Korea has been in the final third, take the Germans to keep a clean sheet. That is undoubtedly your Women’s World Cup best bet.

South Korea vs Germany Picks: Germany to keep a clean sheet (-160)
