Take a look below as we breakdown the week, which players to watch out for, and who’s the best bet.

The Favorite

No. 1 seed and current World No. 4, Tsitsipas is the strong favorite to win this tournament. The 23-year old had an incredible run at the Australian Open last month, with a semifinal appearance, and will look to continue that momentum into Rotterdam.

The Greek will open up his tournament against Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina tomorrow. Tsitsipas currently leads their head-to-head 1-0, having won their quarterfinal matchup last year at the Monte-Carlo Masters.

Tsitsipas is on the hunt for his eighth career title, and after losing to Rublev in the straight sets here in the semifinals, he’ll be looking to avenge that lost, and collect another trophy.

Defending Champion

After a less than ideal Australian Open showing, where the 24-year old lost in the third round to 27th seed Marin Cilic, Rublev will look to channel his performance from last year.

In 2021, on route the title, the Russian dropped just one set, and upset the then higher seed Tsitsipas. Rublev has moved up to the two seed this year, but the Greek is still ahead in the one seed.

Rublev had a much better showing at the Australian Open last year, which allowed him to enter the Rotterdam Open on a high. This year, he’ll have to get passed his sluggish playing if he wants to defend his title.

Good news is that he’ll open his tournament up against a qualifier, but it could get difficult come the third round and beyond.

The Canadians

Felix Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov, seeded third and fifth, respectively, have the chance to make a splash, and deep runs here in Rotterdam. Both are coming off strong quarter final appearances in the Australian Open, where they both fell to their opponents in five sets. Auger-Aliassime lost to second seed Daniil Medvedev, and Shapovalov to eventual champion, and six seed Rafael Nadal.

Both young Canadians will open up their tournament against qualifiers. Shapovalov could seed Hubert Hurkacz in the third round, which could give him trouble. And Auger-Aliassime could go head-to-head against Rublev in the fourth round.

Best Bet

Prior to the tournament, a few big names withdrew including, Daniil Medvedev, Jannik Sinner and Gael Monfils, but the 2022 Rotterdam Open is still considered the biggest and most competitive event happening this week.

Without some of the biggest stars in tennis competing, it gives the opportunity for others to shine through.

Yes, Tsitsipas seems to be the best bet here, given his bounceback performance at the Australian Open, but at +400 odds, Auger-Aliassime, could give him a run. The 21-year old Canadian has had an incredible year so far. His quarterfinal showing at the Aussie Open, which was mentioned, but he also led Canada to the ATP Cup title right before that.

Given the way the draw played out, it’s possible we get a Tsitsipas vs Auger-Aliassime final, as the Greek is in the top half, and the Canadian is in the bottom half.

Best Bet: Stefanos Tsitsipas (+280)

Longer Bet: Felix Auger-Aliassime (+400)
