Perfect Through Four
Pegula has yet to drop a set during the Aussie Open, and she earned a spot in the quarterfinals after defeating 20th seed Barbora Krejcikova 7-5, 6-2 in 101 minutes.

With her win, she now finds herself as the highest seed left in the tournament. No. 1 seed Iga Swiatek had her run end by Elena Rybakina. The American will be looking to move onto the semifinals of a Grand Slam for the first time in her career when she goes up against Azarenka on Monday. Last year, Pegula made the quarters in the Australian, French and US Open.
Pegula wasn’t exceptionally strong in any particular part of her game on Sunday, she truly just outplayed her opponent from start to finish. Krejcikova gained a bit of momentum towards the end of the first set, but once Pegula took that one, she was able to control the rest of the match.
This will be Pegula’s third consecutive quarterfinals appearance at the Australian Open.
Two-Time Australian Open Winner
Azarenka is no stranger to the stage at the Aussie Open. The 33-year old won the tournament in back-to-back years in 2012 and 2013.
33yo Victoria Azarenka, champion in 2012 and 2013, is back into the QFs of the #AusOpen after beating Zhu Lin 4-6, 6-1, 6-4. 2h40, match finished at 2.16am.

Now, the Belarusian is one step closer to capturing her third title when she defeated Zhu Lin in a match that lasted over two and a half hours, and finished after 2 am local time. Azarenka came back after dropping the first set to win 4-6, 6-1, 6-4.
Fifth Career Meeting
These two are quite familiar with one another. They have played each other four times prior. It should’ve been five, but there’s a walkover in 2021 that doesn’t count.
Their first meeting ever was back at the 2021 Australian Open where Pegula won in straight sets. Their most recent matchup was last year in Guadalajara, where Pegula won in straight sets again.

Best Bet
This has all the makings for a fantastic match. Pegula is the highest ranked player left in the tournament, and Azarenka is a two-time Aussie Open champ. The matchup doesn’t get much better than that.
But with saying that, it’s looking like Pegula has the edge coming into this game. The American has yet to drop a set, and her court time has been very limited due to her quick playing. Azarenka has had her last two matches go three sets, after she dropped the first one.
Pegula will be Azarenka’s toughest opponent to date at the tournament this year, and if she goes down in the first set, Pegula won’t give her space to build the momentum for a comeback. Look for Pegula to take the match and move onto the semifinals.
Best Bet: Jessica Pegula 2-0 (-123)
