Sitting behind him as the second favorite is Baltimore Ravens signal-caller Lamar Jackson, currently carrying +738 consensus odds. Backing Jackson with a $20 bet would result in a $147.60 profit and a total return of $167.60, giving him an 11.9% implied probability to win the award.

Josh Allen (+250 Consensus)

Josh Allen has started to break away from the field as the MVP favorite after another strong performance in Week 2. The Bills’ QB threw for 248 yards and three touchdowns, while adding another 69 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

For the season, Allen averages 291 passing yards per game, which is fourth-best in the league, and his 125.8 passer rating is third-best. It’s safe to say he is enjoying Joe Brady taking over the team.

Lamar Jackson (+738 Consensus)

Jackson sits in the number two spot in the NFL MVP odds, though his odds slipped a bit after a loss to the Saints in Week 2, where he threw a game-ending interception on Baltimore’s final drive. In his defense, Jackson was playing without his top two receivers, Zay Flowers and Ja’Kobi Lane, and it appeared there was some miscommunication with his receiver on the interception.

Jackson’s explosiveness is clearly back, though, which makes him a top contender for MVP.

It shouldn’t be surprising to see a lengthy list of quarterbacks at the top of the NFL MVP odds. After all, it has really become a QB-dominated award. Here is what the top five NFL MVP contenders look like entering the offseason:

Here are the players who saw their NFL MVP odds improve the most after Week 2:

• Patrick Mahomes: the Chiefs’ QB delivered a vintage Mahomes performance in Week 2, throwing for 382 yards and three touchdowns in an overtime win over the Colts. His MVP odds improved from an average of +1400 to +838 after the big game.
• Brock Purdy: the 49ers signal-caller played another great game in Week 2, and has now seen his odds improve from +1275 to +862.

And here are the players whose odds worsened most notably:

• Justin Herbert: another awful performance in Week 2, this time against the Raiders, has resulted in Herbert’s MVP odds tanking from +2175 to +5750, as he’s barely hanging on in the top 20 contenders.
• Caleb Williams: after an incredible performance in Week 1, Williams was humbled by the Vikings defense in Week 2 and he also went down with a hamstring injury near the end of the game. Without any certainty on how much time he will miss, Williams’ MVP odds faded from +788 to +3000 after Week 2.

Here are some notes on the NFL MVP odds movement:

• [June 1] After the Rams acquired Myles Garrett in a blockbuster trade, Matthew Stafford’s NFL MVP odds improved from an average of +1400 to +900. While Garrett does not play any offense, those familiar with the award know that team wins are a vital stat in MVP voting.
• [February 9] Just a day after the previous season’s Super Bowl ended, we had NFL MVP odds open up at some sportsbooks. Josh Allen opened as the favorite with +550 odds, while Lamar Jackson was a close second with odds as short as +650. • A quarterback has won each of the last 13 NFL MVP awards
• Since 2001, only three non-QBs have won the award – all were running backs

Teams with Most NFL MVP Winners

Thanks to Aaron Rodgers’ most recent NFL MVP award, the Packers have taken over as the team with the most NFL MVPs. The Colts had five MVP winners during their time in Baltimore – Johnny Unitas accounted for three – but Peyton Manning provided four more when they moved to Indianapolis.

You may be a little surprised to see Cleveland on here, but keep in mind the NFL MVP has been awarded since 1957. Jim Brown won the first two and added a third in 1965.

Thanks to the Greatest Show on Turf, the Rams are the only team to win the award in three consecutive seasons – Brett Favre won it for the Packers in three straight, but he shared the award in 1997 with Barry Sanders.

Teams with No NFL MVP Winners

Patrick Mahomes was the first Kansas City Chief to ever win the NFL MVP award in 2018, and Lamar Jackson became the first ever Raven to win it in 2019.

The city of Baltimore did get to see five MVPs when they had the Colts, though.
