Since 1957, the Associated Press has been presenting a Most Valuable Player award to the NFL’s most deserving candidate – also read as the best quarterback in the league based on the way the voters treat it. The odds to win the 2025-26 NFL MVP are widely available as we work our way through the regular season.

While we did see some MVP odds movement in the offseason, we will now see massive shifts each week of the season. NFL MVP Odds

Josh Allen is currently the favorite to win NFL MVP this season with +180 odds. He is seen as the NFL MVP favorite by all sportsbooks. His +180 odds at DraftKings mean Allen has a 35.7% chance to win the award, according to that particular sportsbook. A $20 bet on Allen at his current price would stand to profit $36 and return $56.

Patrick Mahomes had been the favorite entering Week 9, but a no-touchdown, one-interception performance in the Chiefs loss to the Bills on Sunday saw his MVP odds fade from an average of +135 to as long as +350.

Meanwhile, Allen threw for 273 yards, one touchdown, and no interceptions, while adding another two touchdowns on the ground. Allen’s odds improved from +375 to as short as +160.

It shouldn’t be surprising to see a lengthy list of quarterbacks at the top of the NFL MVP odds. After all, it has really become a QB-dominated award. Here is what the top five NFL MVP contenders look like after Week 9:

Here are some of this week’s biggest risers in the NFL MVP odds, other than Josh Allen:

• Matthew Stafford: the Rams QB has now thrown nine touchdowns over his past two games, and was nearly flawless against the Saints on Sunday. Stafford has not thrown an interception since Week 3. His MVP odds improved from an average of +1400 to as short as +500 after Week 9.
• Sam Darnold: after throwing for 330 yards and four touchdowns, posting a 141.0 passer rating, in Seattle’s dominant win over the Commanders on SNF, Darnold saw his MVP odds improve from +4500 to as short as +2000.

And then here are the players who saw their MVP odds fall:

• Jonathan Taylor: after finally cracking the top five MVP contenders ahead of Week 9, Taylor saw his odds fade from +1600 to as long as +3000 after a quiet game against the Steelers, where he only recorded 45 rushing yards.
• Daniel Jones: though Jones did throw for 341 yards in Indianapolis’ Week 9 loss to the Steelers, he also threw 3 interceptions and lost two fumbles. After his five-turnover day, Jones’ MVP odds faded from +1800 to as long as +4000.

Though Josh Allen won the NFL MVP this past season, it was Lamar Jackson who opened as the NFL MVP favorite for the 2025-26 NFL season. Many argued Jackson should have won the award last season, and sportsbooks have heard those cries loud and clear, as they have given Jackson slightly better odds than Allen to open the offseason.

However, Josh Allen seized the title of favorite back after beating Jackson in Week 1. Allen continued to have the best odds to win the award until Patrick Mahomes took over after Week 6.

It is worth noting that Jayden Daniels’ MVP odds opened at +13000 last season, and he opened this season as a top five contender. This was the biggest difference of any player year-over-year.

Here are some notes on the NFL MVP odds movement:

• [November 3] After putting forth a far better performance than Mahomes in their Week 9 matchup, Josh Allen took back over as the favorite to win NFL MVP.
• [October 14] Patrick Mahomes became the new MVP favorite after a Week 6 where he threw for three touchdowns and Josh Allen, the favorite entering the week, struggled in the Bills’ loss to the Falcons.
• [September 16] Joe Burrow, who entered Week 2 with the third-best odds to win NFL MVP, was removed from the odds after suffering a turf toe injury that landed him on the IR.
• [September 9] Josh Allen overtook Lamar Jackson as the MVP favorite after the Bills’ thrilling comeback win over the Ravens on SNF of Week 1. The two QBs really separated themselves from the pack after just one week, as Patrick Mahomes was third-best on the board at a distant +1100.
• [August 29] Though the Packers adding Micah Parsons doesn’t directly help Jordan Love on offense, his MVP odds did improve from an average of +2280 to +2000 after the trade was completed. The move is the result of the Packers becoming the favorites to win the NFC North and more expected wins, which will help Love’s case. Green Bay’s QB moved into fifth on the board after being as long as +2820 in June.
• [August 15] Joe Burrow opened with the fourth-best odds to win NFL MVP, but saw his odds improve steadily to +600, tying him with Josh Allen for the second-best on the board behind Lamar Jackson.
• [April 29] We saw next to no MVP odds movement come from the NFL Draft results. There were a few players I suspected may see their odds improve: Jordan Love, Drake Maye, and Trevor Lawrence. The Packers got Love a potential new WR1 in Matthew Golden, but his odds actually worsened slightly from +2533 to +2700. The Patriots were widely viewed as a big winner in the draft, adding some protection for Maye, along with a dynamic RB who should add some extra burst. But his odds stayed the same. The Jags made arguably the draft’s most aggressive move to draft Travis Hunter, giving Lawrence another big-time receiving threat, but his odds also worsened slightly, going from +3967 to +4133.
• [March 12] Jalen Hurts’ MVP odds improved from +2250 at opening to +1833 after the first dozen days of NFL free agency. The Eagles did not sign any big-name offensive players in free agency. This movement was the result of money coming in on Hurts.
• [February 7] NFL MVP odds for the 2025-26 NFL season opened almost immediately after the past season’s award was handed out. Lamar Jackson opened as the 2025-26 NFL MVP favorite with +525 odds, just slightly better than Josh Allen’s +575 odds. It is worth mentioning that Jayden Daniels opened last season with +13000 odds to win the MVP, and opened this season with +1050 odds, the fifth-best on the board. Joe Burrow and Patrick Mahomes also opened with short odds, rounding out the top five contenders.

The top non-QB MVP contenders right now are as follows:

As you can likely tell from those odds, they are a ways back from the top contenders for the award. It’s likely we see another QB handed the MVP in 2025-26.

Of the 68 NFL MVP awards handed out, 47.5 have gone to quarterbacks – Brett Favre and Barry Sanders shared the honors in 1997. Looking to the remaining 20.5, 17.5 of them were running backs, two were defensive players, and one was a placekicker.

• Alan Page (1971) and Lawrence Taylor (1986) were the two defensive players to win the award
• Mark Moseley (1982) was the lone kicker to win an MVP, after he nailed an NFL-high 20 field goal attempts – he attempted 21 – for Washington
• Jim Brown won the first two MVP awards in 1957 and 1958
• The most recent RB to be named MVP was Adrian Peterson in 2012

Teams with Most NFL MVP Winners

Thanks to Aaron Rodgers’ most recent NFL MVP award, the Packers have taken over as the team with the most NFL MVPs. The Colts had five MVP winners during their time in Baltimore – Johnny Unitas accounted for three – but Peyton Manning provided four more when they moved to Indianapolis.

You may be a little surprised to see Cleveland on here, but keep in mind the NFL MVP has been awarded since 1957. Jim Brown won the first two and added a third in 1965.

Thanks to the Greatest Show on Turf, the Rams are the only team to win the award in three consecutive seasons – Brett Favre won it for the Packers in three straight, but he shared the award in 1997 with Barry Sanders.

Teams with No NFL MVP Winners

Patrick Mahomes was the first Kansas City Chief to ever win the NFL MVP award in 2018, and Lamar Jackson became the first ever Raven to win it in 2019.

The city of Baltimore did get to see five MVPs when they had the Colts, though.
