2027 NHL Eastern Conference Champion Odds Movement Timeline

• [October 15]: Carolina takes the consensus Eastern Conference lead at +346, shortening from +392 on October 2. Florida drifts from +358 to +431, while Washington improves from +730 to +630.
• [September 29]: On opening night, Washington shortens to +740 in consensus Eastern Conference odds from +1188 on August 1. Florida remains the favorite at +341, followed by Carolina (+380) and Tampa Bay (+660).
• [August 1] Washington shortens from +1512 on July 1 to +1188 in consensus Eastern Conference odds. Florida (+372) also edges ahead of Carolina (+384) for favorite status.
• [July 1] Florida closes the gap on Carolina, shortening from +625 on June 19 to +404 in consensus Eastern Conference odds. The Hurricanes remain narrowly ahead at +390.
• Offseason – On July 1, consensus odds have Carolina on top of the East at +390, just ahead of Florida (+404). Tampa Bay (+575), Montreal (+1175), New Jersey (+1325) and Washington (+1512) headline the next tier.

Carolina finally broke through in 2026, ending Florida’s three-year grip on the East with a five-game win over Montreal in the conference final. The Hurricanes topped the Metropolitan at 113 points and remain among the favorites this season. Jordan Staal is out for one to two months with a calf tear, while Taylor Hall’s upper-body injury adds another concern up front.

Florida’s place near the top of the board reflects more than reputation. The Panthers slipped to 84 points and out of the picture in 2025-26, but the market still trusts a core that reached three straight Stanley Cup Finals to reload after adding Brady Tkachuk and Jacob Markstrom. Barkov’s new lower-body injury leaves him on long-term injured reserve with a six-to-eight-week recovery estimate. Brad Marchand is also expected to miss six weeks. Tampa Bay remains another leading contender.
