New York’s football Giants most recently were champions when they beat the New England Patriots 21-17 in Super Bowl 46.
It Will Take One Giants Leap
Since that Super Bowl 46 triumph, coming during a stretch of eight seasons in which there were no losing campaigns, the Giants have slid into the doldrums. There’s been just one winning season since 2012 and a solitary postseason appearance.

The Giants haven’t won a playoff game since beating the Patriots in that Super Bowl game. They’ve lost at least 10 games in four of the past five seasons. Current head coach Pat Shurmur is the team’s fourth coach in the past five seasons.
Well, They Do Have Saquon
Yes, NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Saquon Barkley is a wonderful building block to start the process of climbing back to respectability.

In his first NFL season, Barkley set an NFL record for the most receptions by a rookie running back (91). Barkley also set NFL rookie records for most yards from scrimmage (2,028) and most 100-plus yard games from scrimmage (12).
It was quite the rookie season for Saquon Barkley – finishing 2nd in the league at his position in terms of total yards after the catch. pic.twitter.com/jv49F3p9Tn

He also tied the league mark of five 50-plus touchdowns from scrimmage. Barkley now shares that standard with Randy Moss.
Barkley also established franchise records for rookies for the most rushing touchdowns (11), most rushing yards (1,307), and most total touchdowns (15).
Bent Without Beckham
The challenge facing Barkley as he enters his sophomore season will be can he put up the same numbers while defenses are able to key more resources to the sole purpose of stopping him?
Shurmur: There are many things I admire about Odell. We traded Odell and got value. I wish him the best.

The trade of All-Pro receiver Odell Beckham Jr took away a huge element from the Giants’ offense, one that was certainly capable of spreading out a defense.
Shurmur: I'm excited about Golden Tate. He and Sterling have similar skill sets and both can play inside out outside.
— Michael Eisen (@giantseisen) March 26, 2019
Golden Tate, signed as a free agent to fill Beckham’s shoes, is a talented and capable receiver, but he doesn’t strike the fear into a defensive coordinator’s game plan that Beckham does.
Least in the NFC East
Sportsbooks actually don’t think that the Giants are the least likely Super Bowl champion from the NFC East. That dishonor was saved for the Washington Redskins (+8000). Sitting 5-3 at midseason, the Redskins went 1-7 after QB Alex Smith suffered a fractured leg.

The Giants, on the other hand, were 4-4 in the second half after a 1-7 start. Lest you think that was an indication of a turnaround, New York closed out the season with three successive losses.
Where to Put Your Money
We’ll just say it flat out – don’t bet the Giants to win Super Bowl 54.
In the 7 seasons following Super Bowl 46, the Giants made the playoffs once and have a 47-65 record. Forgive me if I'm excited about having 12 draft picks in 2019 and an estimated $90M in 2020 cap room to try to change the fortune of the New York Football Giants. #GiantsPride

If you must place a wager on a longshot, consider the Falcons or Seahawks, both at +3300. Should you really want to take a wild stab at it, try the Jets (+5000) or even the Bills (+6600).
New England’s bubble has got to burst at some point, right?
