Can you believe we have been without NFL football for 74 days now? Here’s to hoping the next 139.5 days breezes by. But who’s counting, right?

Football fans passed through another checkpoint en route to kickoff of the 2019 NFL season yesterday (April 17), when the league released each team’s schedule for the upcoming season. And with that, online sports betting sites have blessed us with the spreads for all 16 games on tap for Week 1.

Kickoff Game: Packers vs Bears

For the first time since 2003, the defending champions will not play in the season-opener. The New England Patriots host the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday Night Football of Week 1, while the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers kickoff the 2019 NFL season.

The Packers have been in this spot twice before, with the most recent being 2014. Green Bay is 1-1 in those two games. It will be the first time the Bears are playing in the kickoff game, though.

These two teams met on Sunday Night Football of Week 1 last year, when Aaron Rodgers brought the Packers back from a 20-3 deficit to win 24-23.

The Bears have not won a Week 1 game since 2013, when they beat the Bengals 24-21. They have, however, covered the spread in Week 1 each of the last two seasons, both as underdogs.

The Packers, on the other hand, have not lost a game in Week 1 since 2014, when they were dismantled 36-16 by the Seahawks. Green Bay is 3-1 ATS in those last four years, too, but they were listed as the favorite in each of those games.

The 3.5 points Chicago is laying is too much for me. I don’t have that kind of faith in Mitchell Trubisky and the Bears defense may not be as dominant after losing DC Vic Fangio. I expect this line to come down to 2.5-3 well before kickoff.

Eagles Laying the Most Points in Week 1

Even though the Philadelphia Eagles will have to turn their offense back over to that slouch Carson Wentz due to Nick Foles departing in free agency, the public is still pretty high on the Super Bowl 52 champions heading into 2019.

Depending where you look, the Eagles are anywhere from a top six to top nine Super Bowl 54 contender.

The addition of Jordan Howard should provide a dependable early-down option, while DeSean Jackson has the speed to make the Eagle’s offense a lot of fun.

The Redskins 2019 outlook is basically the exact opposite. They are only projected to win six games according to the 2019 NFL win totals, largely due to the fact that it appears they will have a slouch at quarterback this season.

On paper, their defense appears good enough to keep them in games. But that could change quickly when they’re on the field for 35 minutes per game and consistently thrown out with their backs against the wall.

The Eagles are 3-0 straight up and against the spread in Week 1 over the last three seasons. I see that trend continuing.
