It’s hard to imagine the current edition of the Los Angeles Lakers (4-10, 4-5 home) a 7-point favorite over anybody — with LeBron James potentially out for a fourth straight game.
Enter the San Antonio Spurs (6-11, 3-6 away), who might just be the matchup LA needs to pick up a third straight win.
The Spurs will be playing on the second night of a back-to-back, after getting thumped by the Clippers. It’s their final stop of a 5-game road, with not one win to show for it so far.
An odd schedule quirk has these two teams playing three times over the next seven days, beginning Sunday.

San Antonio Betting Outlook
Save for a 7-point loss to the Blazers, every other loss for the Spurs on this trip has been blowout city.
Saturday night was no different, as the LA Clippers crushed them 119-97, the third time they’ve lost by 20 or more points in their four road losses.
It’s the second time this trip they’ve been held under 100 points, and they are scoring just 103.5 points per game during this skid, which would rank dead last in the NBA.

Doesn’t help that San Antonio is the worst defensive team in the league, surrendering 120.2 points per game. They allow teams to shoot 50.2% from the field and 39.3% from deep, both league-worst marks.
Jakob Poeltl was the only Spurs player to hit 20 points against the Clips, while adding eight rebounds and three assists. Keldon Johnson, who had missed last game with an ankle injury, had 11 points on 5-for-15 shooting.
Devin Vassell (ankle) missed the game, and is questionable for the Sunday road finale, while Zach Collins remains out since suffering a non -displaced fracture of his fibula on Nov 8.
Los Angeles Betting Outlook
Perhaps Anthony Davis is finally settling into the star role LA had envisioned, to eventually take lead role and let LeBron James ride shotgun.
Davis had his second straight monster game, putting up 38 points, 16 rebounds and four blocks to lift the Lakers to a 128-121 win. This came after he dropped 37 points and 18 rebounds in a win last time out against the Nets.
His efforts have helped LA win back-to-back games for the just the second time this season — and they’re the only wins on their season thus far.

Russell Westbrook had another strong showing off the bench, tallying 10 points, 12 dimes and five rebounds. It’s the third straight game he’s led the team with double-digit assists.
The Lakers still continue to struggle from distance, though, as they hit just 7-for-20 against Detroit. They’re shooting just 30.9% from 3-point range on the year, which is the worst mark in the NBA.
James (adductor) is questionable for Sunday, while Davis (back) is still on the injured list, but probable for this matchup.
Spurs vs Lakers Prediction
San Antonio has been surprisingly resilient on zero days rest, albeit in a small sample, going 2-1 against the spread this year.
The Lakers aren’t that far off from San Antonio defensively: they rank 25th in points against, surrendering 115.8 points per game.
Look for LA to do damage inside, as they rank second in the league in points in the paint (56.3), while the Spurs allow 54.5 paint points, the second-worst mark in the NBA.
Another spot the Lakers can wear out the weary Spurs is with a fast-break attack that puts up 16.3 points per game (6th), to a team that surrenders the 2nd-most fast-break points (17.8).
LA hasn’t been a great team to trust, but they should be able to thump the reeling Spurs, with LeBron or not.
Pick:
- Laker +7 (-110); 1 unit to win 0.91 units
- NBA Betting Record: 7-7 ATS, 1-0 ML, 2-2 o/u; 0-1 parlays; -0.20 units
