NFL Odds for Week 1

The 2025 NFL season kicks off on Sept. 4 with Cowboys at Eagles on Thursday Night Football. The Eagles are around a TD favorite, coming in at -6.5 at FanDuel, while others have them at -7. That’s a pretty important distinction.

On the following night the Chiefs and Chargers play in Brazil, where the Chiefs are a 2.5-point favorite.

Sunday of Week 1 features some big-time matchups, including a NFC North clash between the Lions and Packers in Green Bay, where the line varies by sportsbook. While the opening lines had the Lions -1.5, Caesars currently has the Lions at +2.

Ravens at Bills on Sunday Night Football is a huge AFC game, and the Bills are 1.5-point favorite at most sportsbooks, but -1 at Caesars.

How to Bet on NFL Odds

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to bet on NFL lines. I’m going to use the Lions vs. Packers game as an example, and assume that I have done my research on the game already.

  1. Start by downloading the best NFL betting apps. I highly recommend having multiple apps on your phone.
  2. Make sure your account has money or bonus bets available to bet. It’s best to have a set amount you bet on games, props and parlays, to best manage your bankroll.
  3. Check each app for the best odds. In this scenario, I like the Lions by as many as 3 points, so I will be searching for Lions -2.5 with the friendliest odds.
  4. Once you find it, tap the selection in your app.
  5. In your bet slip, put in the amount you want to bet on the game.
  6. Confirm your choice.

There it is, your bet is placed. Monitor throughout the game to see if there are cash out options available, or if a live betting line will pop up that allows you to either hedge your bet or double down on it.

Finding the Best NFL Odds: Why Line Shopping Matters

Shopping around to find the best odds is one of the easiest ways to maximize your profits this NFL season. Of course, you’ll need to have accounts set up at a couple different sportsbooks to take advantage of any differences in the lines offered.

As you see at the top of this page, not every online sportsbook has the same odds on a given game, so give yourself the best chance at winning by finding the odds that are most favorable to you. But it’s not just spreads and moneylines that you should shop for.

For example, one site may have Patrick Mahomes listed at +600 to win MVP, while another has him at +650. That’s a $50 difference in your winnings if you’re betting $100 on the outcome.

Differences are smaller but equally important on player props, where Saquon Barkley‘s rushing yards prop against the Cowboys could be set at 95.5 on FanDuel but 98.5 on DraftKings. Anyone who has ever placed a bet, or played Fantasy Football, knows how big those three yards could be.

NFL Odds Today

This page contains all this week’s NFL odds for upcoming matchups. From Thursday Night Football to Monday Night Football – and the full slate of NFL odds for Sunday – you’ll find a complete list of games and betting lines listed above. Once you’ve run through this week’s NFL lines to find the best odds for the games you want to bet, it’s time to do a bit of handicapping.

Unlock these key metrics to get the inside edge when betting this week’s NFL games:

  • Bet %: The bet % metric shows you what percentage of the total betting volume falls on either side of the betting line. In other words, it allows you to see which side of the line is taking more action in terms of total number of wagers placed. This is the easiest way to see which side is favored by the public.
  • Money %: The money % metrics shows you what percentage of the total money wagered falls on either side of the betting line. In other words, it allows you to see which side of the line is attracting the biggest bets and largest share of total money wagered.
  • Sharp: Our sharp money meter uses a proprietary formula including inputs from the bet and money % to determine where the sharpest bettors are putting their money.

How to Read NFL Odds

If this is your first time jumping into sports betting, you may be wondering how to read the NFL moneyline, point spread, and over/under odds found on this page.

This article provides a full run-down of how to read odds and how oddsmakers formulate them, but here are the basics for each betting option:

NFL Moneyline Odds

Betting the moneyline is the simplest NFL bet you can make. You’re simply picking one team to win the game outright. Select “moneyline” in the feed preferences above to see this week’s NFL moneyline odds.

The positive number in moneyline betting is the odds for the underdog. This is the amount you stand to profit if you place a $100 bet on the underdog.

The negative number is the odds for the favorite. This is the amount you’ll need to risk in order to return a $100 profit backing the favorite.

While unusual, there are football games where both teams will have negative moneyline odds. In this case, the side with the larger negative number is the favorite.

NFL Point Spread Odds

Many NFL matchups aren’t exactly unpredictable. When one side is heavily favored, the point spread keeps things interesting. By “taking” points from the favorite and “giving” them to the underdog, the NFL point spread makes it possible to back either side, even in a very lopsided matchup. Select “spread” to see the odds for this week’s NFL spreads.

The amount of points given from the favorite and taken by the underdog is the spread – you’ll see this number displayed next to a (+) for the underdog (since they are getting extra points) and a (-) for the favorite (since points are being subtracted.

To cover the spread, the favorite must win the game by the margin of the point spread. The underdog covers anytime they win the game outright or lose by less than the margin outlined by the spread.

Next to the point spread, you’ll find odds like those you’d see on the moneyline. These will generally be in the range of -105 to -115 for most NFL point spreads, indicating the amount you need to risk to win $100. In NFL spread betting, you often won’t see the odds attached to the line get any longer than +100.

NFL Over/Under (Totals) Odds

Betting totals is another popular way to wager on NFL games. Commonly known as the over/under, totals betting asks you to wager on whether the final score with be over or under the total set by the oddsmakers.

Compare NFL over/under odds by selecting “total” in preferences. You’ll see a large number with both (o) & (u) – this is the total. Bet on the final score to be over or under this number.

Like the point spread, you’ll see odds associated with taking the over or under. With some exceptions, expect to see these odds in the range of -105 to -115 when betting NFL over/under lines.

NFL Line Movement

Sports Betting Dime’s matchup pages also displayed detailed NFL odds history and line movement for the moneyline, point spread and total for each game, showing you how the odds have shifted from opening lines all the way to kick off.

Simply select “full game stats” to see the odds history and line movement for this week’s NFL odds.

Line movement is a crucial piece of NFL betting for several reasons. It’s typically not the public that forces a line move, as it’s more often the result of big money coming in from respected bettors. A line movement could also give you insight into how serious experts believe an injury to be.

NFL Odds FAQ

How are NFL betting lines set?

Sportsbooks use advanced statistical formulas to set NFL betting lines. Those formulas factor in homefield advantage, past performance, recent trends and more. Major injuries or absences are also factored into NFL betting lines.

What is point spread in NFL betting?

Point spread betting is picking a team to win or lose by a set number. If the Jets are listed at -6.5 against the Dolphins, they would need to win by seven or more for your bet to win. If you pick the Dolphins +6.5 in that scenario, your bet wins with any Dolphins win, or if they lose by six or less.

How do I calculate potential winnings from NFL odds?

Odds are set based on a $100 bet, so if they’re at -110, you would need to bet $110 to win $100. If they’re +200, a $100 bet would win you $200. In each of those cases, you would also receive your money back.

Which sportsbooks offer the best NFL odds?

BetMGM, DraftKings, FanDuel, bet365, Caesars Sportsbook and Fanatics Sportsbook are some of our favorite sites for NFL odds.

When are NFL odds released?

Initial NFL odds are often released as soon as the schedule is announced in the spring. During the season, odds will start to come out on Sunday night, as the previous week’s games are wrapping up.
