Chiefs superfan Xaviar Michael Babudar, known as “ChiefsAholic” on social media who was recognized on game days for the full wolf costume he would wear to Chiefs games, was sentenced to an additional 14.5 years in prison for a bank robbery spree that spanned several years.
According to reports from ESPN, Babudar was sentenced to an additional 14.5 years in prison by an Oklahoma judge. He was already serving a federal sentence in prison, but with his additional years he will serve a total sentence of 32 years.
Babudar admitted to robbing 11 banks throughout the Midwest and stealing more than $800,000.
Prosecutors Requested Life Sentence
The Tulsa Country district attorney’s office requested Babudar serve a life sentence for his actions, but an Oklahoma judge disagreed. The judge instead added an additional 14.5 years to the federal sentence of 17.5 years Babudar was already serving.
Babudar was well known in the Chiefs community for his social media presence and for wearing a full wolf costume to all Chiefs home games. Babudar also bet heavily on the Chiefs, winning several large wagers he likely funded with profits from his bank robberies.
FBI investigators reviewed bank records, casino transaction records, and financial reporting to determine that Babudar purchased and redeemed more than $1 million in chips from various casinos in Missouri, Kansas and Illinois between April and December 2022.
According to the Western District of Missouri, Babudar’s cell phone was placed in several cities and locations for a number of previously unsolved bank robberies and attempted robberies. In addition to the complaint and robbery charges in Oklahoma, an affidavit refers to four bank robberies in Nebraska, Iowa, Tennessee and Oklahoma, and to the attempted robberies of two credit unions in Minnesota.
Babudar was eventually arrested in early 2023 for his actions. He posted bail and was released on bond in February 2023, but in late March 2023 he removed his ankle monitor and fled prosecution. He was caught and charged yet again in July 2023.
Big Sports Bettor
Babudar placed several large bets on the Chiefs during his bank robbery spree, mostly at brick-and-mortar casinos. Missouri sports betting was not yet legal during his activity, so Babudar was forced to cross the border into Kansas to place his bets.
In June 2022, Babudar placed a $5,000 bet on Patrick Mahomes to win the NFL MVP. The bet hit and netted Babudar a $45,000 total payout. He also placed a bet on the Chiefs to win the Super Bowl, which they did, and the ticket netted him $55,000.
The only problem is Babudar was incarcerated after being arrested and charged with armed robbery on Friday, Dec. 16, 2022, for his alleged involvement in a bank robbery in Bixby, Oklahoma, when both tickets hit.
It’s unknown if Babudar ever cashed the tickets, or if he would have been allowed to do so. Sports Betting Dime previously reached out to the Kansas Lottery, which oversees Kansas sports betting, and a representative told us there were no specific state sports betting rules or regulations that pertain to an imprisoned individual cashing winning sports betting tickets.
