With a blowout win over OKC in Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals, the Minnesota Timberwolves turned this into a series. A win in Game 4 on Monday, and they can turn this into a legitimate dogfight to represent the West in the NBA Finals.

Even after the 143-101 trouncing in an unusual no-show for the Thunder, oddsmakers still have them as the betting favorite — at an even higher number than in Game 3 — listing them as 3-point road favorites in the NBA odds.

Game 4 tips off Monday night at 8:30pm ET from the Target Center in Minneapolis, with ESPN carrying the broadcast.

OKC Thunder vs Minnesota Timberwolves Picks

  • Thunder vs Timberwolves pick: Timberwolves +3 (-110)

For the first time in these playoffs, we watched the OKC Thunder get demolished. There was no hiding Game 3’s blemishes: the Thunder shot just 40.7% from the field, including 14-for-44 from distance, a lowly 31.8% rate.

OKC also coughed the ball up 15 times for 16 points against, and were wiped off the glass by a count of 50-31.

Their defense, which had been so sturdy all playoffs, allowed Minnesota to shoot a blistering 57.3% from the field and an exceptional 20-for-40 from downtown, a 50% clip.

And yet, a win Monday and OKC can return home and close out the series in five.

That will likely need a return to form for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who wants that Game 3 statline to be the outlier on what’s been an outstanding playoff run.

For the Timberwolves, there was a clear level of intensity that was displayed to kick off the game, particularly on the defensive end, as they built a 34-14 lead after one quarter and never looked back.

While he scored more in Game 2’s loss, Anthony Edwards’ 30-point effort was more impactful, with a dribble drive to at least bend the defense early, while also connecting on 5-for-8 from downtown, by far his best shooting mark from distance in the series.

Julius Randle responded from his Game 2 fourth-quarter benching with 24 points on 9-for-15 shooting, and the bench went berserk, scoring 66 points — including double-digit scoring games from Naz Reid, Nickeil Alexander-Walker and seldom used Terrence Shannon Jr.

Perhaps the most important element that Minnesota now has is the compete level needed to take down the league’s best team.

This one is by far the biggest game of the series, as 2-2 looks like more of a toss up than 3-1, and Minny needing to down the Thunder in three straight to win.

It won’t be easy, as OKC was 16-2-0 against the spread following a loss in the regular season, which was tops in the NBA. They’ve also yet to lose back-to-back games in these playoffs.

But Minnesota is 4-2-0 ATS against the Thunder in the last six head-to-head matchups, and I think they ride the Game 3 momentum in the best and closest game in this series to date.

There’s no way OKC doesn’t play better Monday — there’s literally nowhere else to go but up after that dud in Game 3.

While SGA seems like the logical choice to bounce back, he’s coming off his lowest scoring game of the playoffs, and three of his lowest scoring outings have all come on the road.

Instead, let’s focus on Jalen Williams, who was arguably the most competitive Thunder player on the floor in the Game 3 loss. Williams finished with 13 points, but was the most aggressive Thunder player on the court, and would have likely topped his total if the Thunder didn’t pull the plug.

His line is 20.5 points Monday, and prior to Game 3 it was a figure he’s topped in two of the last three, missing the third by a single bucket. I like him to run alongside SGA in Game 4 and be a differene maker.

  • Thunder vs Timberwolves player prop bet: Williams Over 20.5 points (-110)
