Two teams battling at the top of the MAC collide Tuesday night when the Buffalo Bulls (5-4, 4-1 MAC) visit the Central Michigan Chippewas (5-4, 3-2 MAC).

Buffalo is one of four school log jammed at the top of the MAC with 4-1 records, while Central Michigan is in a group of three a game back at 3-2, and they’re favored by 1.5 points in the college football odds.

In a matchup that’s really tough to call, my Buffalo vs Central Michigan prediction is leaning on the Chippewas’ standout play at home to prevail.

Kickoff is scheduled for Tuesday night at 7pm ET from the Kelly/Shorts Stadium in Mount Pleasant, MI. CBS Sports Network is providing the broadcast coverage.

These teams are pretty evenly matched statistically, with Buffalo ranking inside the Top four in both scoring offense (24.8ppg) and defense (19.6ppg).

The Bulls are coming off one of their best wins of the season, mashing Bowling Green 28-3. That’s the only non-stress game they’ve been involved in through five conference games.

In their four other games, the margin for win or defeat has been nothing greater than eight points.

Central Michigan is right in Buffalo’s wheelhouse, a few notches back. in the standings, but inside the Top Six in both, scoring 24.1 points per game, while giving up a few more points at 24 per contest.

The Chippewas are coming off a 24-21 loss to Western Michigan, dropping them to 3-2 in conference play.

They’ve been within one possession in both MAC losses (they dropped a 28-22 decision to Akron), but they’ve been dominant in victory winning by double digits in all three wins.

While Buffalo does a little bit of run and pass, the Bulls do what they can to navigate a game and finish it off with a win.

There’s no mistaking Central Michigan’s MO: they are the second-leading rushing team in the conference, and they run relentlessly, ringing up 185.3 yards per game.

Buffalo does rank fourth in the MAC defending the run, but they haven’t faced any team in the Top 6 until Tuesday. They give up 139 yards per game and have allowed 10 rushing scores, so they’re no exactly dominant, either.
