With their chances of a division title now over, how hard will Sean McVay push his LA Rams (11-4, 5-3 away) tonight against the Atlanta Falcons (6-9, 2-4 home) in an effort to lock up the 5-seed in the NFC?

The Falcons are already eliminated from postseason play, but winning out would actually kill the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ playoff hopes, handing the division to the Carolina Panthers.

The books have the Rams as heavy road favorites in the Monday Night Football odds. Kickoff is set for 8:15pm ET from Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, with ABC and ESPN carrying the broadcast.

The San Francisco 49ers and their wild win Sunday night over the Bears took a little sting out of tonight’s Rams vs Falcons battle. 

LA didn’t do themselves any favors, either, though, losing a dramatic one on Thursday night, 38-37, in OT to the Seahawks.

While the Rams typically promote rest over seeding, there might be extra incentive to stay at five versus falling to sixth in the conference.

The 5-spot guarantees the Rams will take on either the Panthers or Buccaneers, a more favorable matchup than falling to sixth, where they’d need to go on the road and likely battle the defending Super Bowl-champion Philadelphia Eagles.

LA should be able to lean on their high-powered offense in this one. They lead the NFL in scoring at 30.5 points per game, and rank inside the top five in both rushing and passing.

Even with a top-eight pass defense, the Falcons will be challenged to keep pace with Matthew Stafford and company, as the veteran LA pivot is the favorite in the NFL MVP odds, leading the league with 40 TD passes against just five interceptions.

The Falcons happen to be playing some of their best football of the season, and they still play a pivotal role in how the NFC South will be won because of a bevy of tiebreakers baked into their season intertwined with Carolina and Tampa.

Kirk Cousins has the offense cooking right now, as they’ve averaged 27.5 points per game over the last two games, and Atlanta has scored at least 24 points in four of the last five games with Cousins as QB.

He’s also been able to lean on stud back Bijan Robinson, who leads the NFL with 131.5 yards from scrimmage. Robinson will test an LA defense that’s middle of the pack defending the run (12th) and pass (19th).

With the way both teams have been playing of late, my Rams vs Falcons prediction is to target the total. LA has hit the Over in four straight, and they’ve averaged 38 points per game in their last four on the road.

Atlanta has also seen the Over cash in three of its last four. 

Rams vs Falcons Closing Lines

With just over two hours before kickoff, the Falcons are 7.5-point underdogs at Caesars, and a distant +300 on the moneyline at BetMGM.

DraftKings lists the Rams as a short -340 to win outright, and bet365 has LA as -7.5 point road favorites with +100 odds to cover.

For those betting the Over, bet365 has the total at 49 points, while Under bettors can grab an extra half point from the folks at BetMGM.

LA Rams vs ATL Falcons Line Movement

The Rams have been as high as 8.5-point favorites, but Atlanta’s recent good play, coupled with LA out of bigger-picture seeding in the playoffs have brought this line down to seven points at most books.

Atlanta was as long as +400 on the moneyline, but that’s shortened to the +275 range. LA was as short as -450 a week ago, but that’s down around -374 now.

The total has stayed relatively calm, remaining in the 49.5 to 50.5 range and hardly veering.

It’s Rams or bust on the moneyline according to the NFL public betting percentages, which have 95% of the bets and 91% of the money on the visitors to win outright. 

The spread is a different story, with 56% of the money on Atlanta to cover a 7.5-point spread, while LA is getting 53% of the bets at 7.5 points.

The Over is getting more of the play as well, with 58% of the bets and 54% of the money taking the Over at 49 points.
