Two more semifinal spots are available Thursday night at the College Basketball Crown, beginning with the Stanford Cardinal (20-12, 9-9 ACC) taking on the West Virginia Mountaineers (18-14, 9-9 Big 12).

The survivor advances to take on the winner of Rutgers vs Creighton on Saturday.

Tip-off is set for 8pm ET from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, and will be broadcast live on Fox Sports 1.

The books seem a little uneasy in this matchup, naming the Cardinal a 1.5-point favorite in the college basketball odds, while Stanford has -111 odds to win this tournament outright.

The Mountaineers have -122 odds with the 1.5 points they were given in this matchup, and -108 odds to win this tournament outright.

The total is set at 135.5 points – and this is where I’m going to place by best Stanford vs West Virginia bet.

Stanford vs West Virginia Picks

West Virginia entered this tournament after a rough end to the regular season, winning just five games in their final 13, including getting dumped 68-48 by BYU in the Big 12 Tournament.

They are challenged offensively, scoring just 69.2 points per game. That ranks last in the conference, and in the national picture, is outside the Top 280 in college basketball.

However, what the Mountaineers are able to do is play some pretty suffocating defense. They were second in the Big 12 in points allowed, giving up just 64.8 points per game, while limiting teams to just 41.6% shooting from the field (42nd).

Despite just a mediocre 8-9 record to end this season, the team was an Under gem, finishing with a 13-4-0 record.

It was a far smoother end of the season for the Cardinal, who had reeled off four straight wins before getting bounced in their first game of the Big 12 Tournament.

While it’s their first game since the ACC Tournament back on March 10, Stanford’s recent track record shows a team that had some talent and found a way to stay competitive, despite an offense that ranks outside college basketball’s top 190.

That’s because the Cardinal just know how to hang: in each of their last four wins, only one was decided by double figures, while their loss to Pittsburgh at the ACC Tourney was also by a single point (64-63).

Stanford should lean heavily on freshman standout Ebuka Okorie, who led the ACC in scoring at 22.8 points per game, which ranked eighth-best in the nation. He led the team in scoring in nine of the final 12 games of the season.

This tournament should have a feel of a playoff game, and if that’s the case, Stanford did go Under the total in its loss to Pitt, and they’ve got a 5-5-0 Under record in the last 10 overall.

West Virginia has seen the Under cash in three straight games, and in five of their last seven overall.

With more than three weeks since either team have been in a real, live game environment, I don’t believe scoring will be as crisp as expected, which plays into the total, which should be kept down.
