It’s the last stand for the back-to-back Western Conference Champion Edmonton Oilers, who are down 3-1 and face elimination at the hands of the Anaheim Mighty Ducks in Game 5 of their Round 1 series Tuesday.

The books aren’t so sure the Ducks, looking for their first playoff series win in nine years, can seal the deal just yet, setting Edmonton as the home favorites in the NHL odds.

Puck drop is set for 10pm ET from Rogers Place in Edmonton, with TNT/truTV/HBO Max providing the broadcast coverage.

Read below as I share my prediction, prop picks and the updated odds for Game 5.

Ducks vs Oilers Prediction

• Pick: Oilers ML (-170 at bet365)

It took a wild and controversial finish in Game 4 that’s pushed the Oilers to the brink, as there’s yet to be any definitive footage that Ryan Poehling’s shot clearly crossed the goal line under Tristan Jarry’s skate for the OT winner.

But Edmonton’s undoing was it’s inability to hold 2-0 and 3-2 leads in the game.

Jarry was better than Connor Ingram in net, but the Oilers has still allowed at least four goals in every game of this series, and their offense, which was one of the league’s most dangerous — fronted by the NHL’s leading scorer in Connor McDavid — hasn’t been able to match.

McDavid clearly isn’t 100% since an apparent ankle injury in Game 2, but he’s doing what he can, picking up a pair of multi-point games in Anaheim to get on the scoreboard in the series, but it hasn’t been enough.

Anaheim has gotten production up and down the lineup, with D-man Jackson LaCombe leading the team in scoring with eight points.

He’s one of 11 Ducks to light the lamp in this series, with Poehling and Cutter Gauthier’s three goals leading the way among seven multi-goal scorers on the roster.

It helps that they’ve also torched the Oilers on the powerplay, connecting six times on their 12 opportunities.

Still, my Ducks vs Oilers pick still sides with the home team, as we’ve seen the Oilers dig their way out of holes in two power runs to the Stanley Cup Final the last two seasons.

Last year, they were down 2-0 to the LA Kings in Round 1 and came back to win, while two years ago, Edmonton erased 2-1 deficits in Round 2 and 3, and climbed out of a 3-0 hole to take the Florida Panthers to Game 7 in the Cup Final.

Full marks to Anaheim if they can do it Tuesday, but McDavid’s Oilers have shown too much resiliency to not push this series to at least six games.

Ducks vs Oilers Player Prop Picks

• Connor McDavid – Anytime Goalscorer (+100 at bet365): In a must-win game, it’s a no-brainer to lay some coin on the NHL’s leading scorer, who was third in goals this year with 48. McDavid has four goals in his last eight at Rogers. He’s scored at least one goal in seven of his last eight vs Anaheim at home.

• Cutter Gauthier – Anytime Goalscorer (+185 at bet365): Cutter Gauthier is rolling right now: his goal in Game 4 against Edmonton gives him eight goals in his last nine games. With three goals in this series, he now has eight goals in 11 career matchups with the Oil.

Taking Anaheim to wrap things up Tuesday comes with nice +145 odds, while Edmonton extending this series checks in at -170, with both moneyline odds courtesy of bet365.

The Ducks are getting a 1.5-goal cushion on the puckline at FanDuel, though that pays out at just -154 odds. For the Oilers to cover by two goals or more pays out at a nice +140 at bet365.

As for the total, Over bettors should head over to DraftKings, where the line is set at 6.5 goals. Under bettors will get a half-goal extra cushion at bet365 to 7.0, paying out at -115 odds.
