Fabio Wardley (20-0-1) defends his WBO heavyweight title against former IBF champion Daniel Dubois (22-3) on Saturday at Co-op Live Arena in Manchester. Two of the hardest punchers in British boxing history will trade leather with a combined 95% knockout rate between them.

Wardley should win this fight, and I expect a stoppage in the second half. He’s unbeaten for a reason, and that reason is he finds a way to win when things get hard.

Look at his recent run. Frazer Clarke pushed him to a 12-round draw, then Wardley knocked him out in round one of the rematch. Justis Huni was boxing circles around him for nine rounds, then Wardley landed an overhand right that ended it in the 10th. Joseph Parker was giving him problems, then Wardley poured it on late and stopped him in round 11.

Wardley has something you can’t teach. He doesn’t fold under pressure. He stays calm when he’s hurt. He finds another gear when most fighters would start looking for a way out.

Dubois has the opposite reputation. He’s been stopped three times – by Joe Joyce, and twice by Oleksandr Usyk. In all three losses, he took a knee and didn’t beat the count. That pattern concerns me.

Dubois is a confidence fighter. When he gets success early, he looks unstoppable. When he gets hurt, his confidence drops and he starts looking for a way out. If Wardley can survive the early rounds and drag Dubois into deep water, I expect the champion to drown him.

The consensus among pro boxers backs Wardley. Usyk picked him. Groves picked him. Carl Frampton expects Wardley to drag Dubois into a fight and drown him late. The common thread is that Wardley has the dog in him that Dubois doesn’t.

I expect Dubois to have success early. He’s the better technical boxer and his jab is a real weapon. But somewhere in rounds 6-9, Wardley should turn this into a fight, find his shots, and get the stoppage.

Wardley is a slight -120 favorite at BetMGM. Dubois comes back at -110. This is about as close to a pick’em as you’ll see for a world title fight.

The method of victory odds favor a stoppage from either man. Wardley by KO/TKO is +138, Dubois by KO/TKO is +150. Both fighters winning by decision sit above +550. The books don’t expect this to go 12 rounds, and neither do I.

Fight not to go the distance is priced at -300. That’s steep juice, but with a combined 95% knockout rate, it makes sense.
