2025 NFL MVP Odds
The 2025-26 NFL MVP award became a two-horse race down the stretch of the regular season, with Rams QB Matthew Stafford beating out Patriots QB Drake Maye. Many of the perennial MVP contenders, like Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, and Lamar Jackson, among others, had down seasons due to injury and/or poor performance. This left the door open for some running backs and young players to enter contention for parts of the season.
While Maye put forth some fantastic competition, potentially aided by a very light regular season schedule, Stafford ultimately was voted the NFL’s Most Valuable Player for the 2025-26 NFL season. It marked Stafford’s first MVP award. But the odds did not always favor the Rams QB down the stretch. In fact, Maye was a heavy favorite to win the award heading into Week 18.
Matthew Stafford closed as the favorite to win the 2025-26 NFL MVP with as short as -210 odds. The Rams QB took back over as the favorite after a Week 18 performance that included 259 passing yards and four touchdowns in LA’s win over the Cardinals. Drake Maye, who was the favorite entering Week 18, had a bit of a quiet game against the Dolphins, throwing for 191 yards and one touchdown – he only played about three quarters of the game.
The move back to Stafford being the favorite felt like a mix of the most recent game but also taking a step back and viewing the whole season. Here’s how the two stacked up against each other in key statistical categories:
Stafford vs Maye in 2025-26 Regular Season
Stafford had the more prolific passing season, while Maye was far more effective with his legs. However, sportsbooks obviously didn’t believe Maye was good enough with his legs to make up for the difference in passing between him and Stafford.
These were the top contenders the last time we saw odds after Week 18’s conclusion:
- Matthew Stafford (-173 consensus odds)
- Drake Maye (+143)
- Trevor Lawrence (+25000)
- Sam Darnold (+40000)
- Josh Allen (+50000)
2025-26 NFL MVP Odds Movement
Here are some notes on the 2025-26 NFL MVP odds movement:
- [January 5] Matthew Stafford became the favorite again after a strong four-touchdown performance in Week 18. Maye, who was heavily favored entering the final week of the season, had a quiet game against the Dolphins.
- [December 30] Drake Maye used a five-touchdown performance in a dominant win over the Jets in Week 17 to take back over as the favorite. This was paired with Matthew Stafford throwing three interceptions in the Rams’ loss to the Falcons.
- [December 9] While Drake Maye was on bye, Stafford threw for 281 yards and three touchdowns in Week 14, which saw him take back over as the MVP favorite.
- [December 2] After Matthew Stafford threw two interceptions and was upset by the Panthers in Week 13, we saw Drake Maye take over as the favorite for the first time this season.
- [November 18] Though Stafford’s stats were modest, only throwing for 130 yards and two touchdowns, beating the Seahawks in Week 11 was enough to see him break away from Maye as the lone favorite.
- [November 10] Josh Allen’s horrendous Week 10 performance in Buffalo’s loss to the Dolphins resulted in Matthew Stafford and Drake Maye taking over as co-favorites.
- [November 3] After putting forth a far better performance than Mahomes in their Week 9 matchup, Josh Allen took back over as the favorite to win NFL MVP.
- [October 14] Patrick Mahomes became the new MVP favorite after a Week 6 where he threw for three touchdowns and Josh Allen, the favorite entering the week, struggled in the Bills’ loss to the Falcons.
- [September 16] Joe Burrow, who entered Week 2 with the third-best odds to win NFL MVP, was removed from the odds after suffering a turf toe injury that landed him on the IR.
- [September 9] Josh Allen overtook Lamar Jackson as the MVP favorite after the Bills’ thrilling comeback win over the Ravens on SNF of Week 1. The two QBs really separated themselves from the pack after just one week, as Patrick Mahomes was third-best on the board at a distant +1100.
- [August 29] Though the Packers adding Micah Parsons doesn’t directly help Jordan Love on offense, his MVP odds did improve from an average of +2280 to +2000 after the trade was completed. The move is the result of the Packers becoming the favorites to win the NFC North and more expected wins, which will help Love’s case. Green Bay’s QB moved into fifth on the board after being as long as +2820 in June.
- [August 15] Joe Burrow opened with the fourth-best odds to win NFL MVP, but saw his odds improve steadily to +600, tying him with Josh Allen for the second-best on the board behind Lamar Jackson.
- [April 29] We saw next to no MVP odds movement come from the NFL Draft results. There were a few players I suspected may see their odds improve: Jordan Love, Drake Maye, and Trevor Lawrence. The Packers got Love a potential new WR1 in Matthew Golden, but his odds actually worsened slightly from +2533 to +2700. The Patriots were widely viewed as a big winner in the draft, adding some protection for Maye, along with a dynamic RB who should add some extra burst. But his odds stayed the same. The Jags made arguably the draft’s most aggressive move to draft Travis Hunter, giving Lawrence another big-time receiving threat, but his odds also worsened slightly, going from +3967 to +4133.
- [March 12] Jalen Hurts’ MVP odds improved from +2250 at opening to +1833 after the first dozen days of NFL free agency. The Eagles did not sign any big-name offensive players in free agency. This movement was the result of money coming in on Hurts.
- [February 7] NFL MVP odds for the 2025-26 NFL season opened almost immediately after the past season’s award was handed out. Lamar Jackson opened as the 2025-26 NFL MVP favorite with +525 odds, just slightly better than Josh Allen’s +575 odds. It is worth mentioning that Jayden Daniels opened last season with +13000 odds to win the MVP, and opened this season with +1050 odds, the fifth-best on the board. Joe Burrow and Patrick Mahomes also opened with short odds, rounding out the top five contenders.

Both Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Jonathan Taylor had their moments in the 2025/26 season as legitimate NFL MVP contenders, but neither was able to sustain the required success to steal this award from QBs.
2024 NFL MVP Odds
The 2024-25 NFL MVP race was a tightly contested one, as Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson put up very similar numbers and their respective teams saw plenty of regular season success as well. We even saw a running back make it into the top contenders during the later part of the season, as Saquon Barkley put together an historical season in his first year with the Eagles.
Josh Allen ended up winning the NFL MVP award for the 2024-25 NFL season, but he wasn’t always the favorite. Take a look back at the 2024 NFL MVP odds and see how they changed throughout the course of the season.
We saw three different NFL MVP favorites during the 2024-25 season: (1) Patrick Mahomes was the favorite for the majority of the season; (2) Lamar Jackson had two brief stints as the favorite, with the first being one week long after Week 7 and the second being a two-week period from Weeks 9-10; and (3) Josh Allen finished the season on his third go of being the MVP favorite, as he took over following Buffalo’s Week 11 win over the Chiefs. Each of his first two stints only lasted one week apiece.
Josh Allen closed the season as the heavy 2024-25 NFL MVP favorite, and the sportsbooks were correct, as he was named the MVP at the NFL Honors. Though Allen was not always the favorite, he remained among the top contenders the entire season. The longest odds you could have gotten on Allen to win MVP were +862 (average), which came in the offseason following the Bills trading Stefon Diggs.
Here are some notes on the 2024-25 NFL MVP odds movement:
- [February 6] Josh Allen was named NFL MVP at the NFL Honors
- [December 17] A win over the Lions in Week 15 pushed Josh Allen’s MVP odds from -380 to -900.
- [December 10] In spite of losing to the Rams in Week 14, Josh Allen saw his NFL MVP odds improve from -210 to -380 after an incredible six-touchdown performance.
- [December 3] Following Buffalo’s dominant win over the 49ers in Week 13, which saw Josh Allen record a passing touchdown to himself, the Bills’ QB became an odds-on favorite to win NFL MVP. Allen’s odds improved from +155 to -210.
- [November 26] Saquon Barkley rushed for 255 yards in Week 12, and totaled 302 yards from scrimmage, while scoring two touchdowns. Barkley’s MVP odds were +5350 entering Week 12, but shortened all the way to +475, third-best at this time, at some sportsbooks after the big performance. His QB’s MVP odds dipped from +1700 to +4000 as Barkley takes center stage in the Eagles offensive resurgence.
- [November 18] After the Bills handed the Chiefs their first loss of the season in Week 11, Josh Allen came out as the NFL MVP favorite again, seeing his odds improve from +353 to +160. Jared Goff saw huge movement in his odds, as they went from +4000 to +700, which were third-best on the board following Week 11.
- [November 12] Another great performance in Week 10 saw Lamar Jackson become an odds-on favorite at some sportsbooks, but has distanced himself from the pack at all sportsbooks. Jackson is within 10 cents of even money at all betting apps. Jared Goff’s MVP odds went the other way after throwing five interceptions against the Texans. Goff was listed at +800 heading into Week 10, but came out at +4000.
- [November 5] Lamar Jackson carved up a Broncos defense in Week 9 that had been very good against the pass all season. The result was Jackson taking back over as the MVP favorite. Some sportsbooks listed Jackson and Josh Allen as co-favorites after Week 9, but DraftKings and BetMGM gave the nod to the Ravens QB.
- [October 29] After throwing for 283 yards and two touchdowns in a 31-10 win over the Seahawks in Week 8, Josh Allen has become the favorite to win NFL MVP again. The move may have been more about Lamar Jackson losing to the Browns, though. Jayden Daniels also saw major movement, going from +3000 to +1600 after taking down the Bears on a last-second Hail Mary.
- [October 22] Lamar Jackson exploded against the Bucs on Monday Night Football of Week 7, throwing for 281 yards and five touchdowns, while adding another 52 yards with his legs. The big performance was enough to make Jackson the NFL MVP favorite at this time.
- [October 8] Josh Allen saw his MVP odds worsen significantly, going from +317 to +800, after he (and his WRs) struggled in Week 5 against the Texans. Jayden Daniels, on the other hand, is not only the odds-on favorite to win NFL OROY, but moved into the top five MVP contenders after Week 5. Daniels’ odds improved from +3800 to +1100 after embarrassing a once proud Browns defense.
- [Septemer 30] Josh Allen’s time as the NFL MVP favorite only lasted one week, as his odds faded after the Bills were blown out on SNF of Week 4 by the Ravens. Patrick Mahomes took back over as the favorite, in spite of his favorite target, Rashee Rice, potentially being lost for the season. Sam Darnold saw his odds continue to improve, landing at +1300 after Week 4, making him a top five contender.
- [September 23] After three straight weeks of dominating on the field, Josh Allen has taken over as the NFL MVP favorite following a Week 3 blowout of the Jaguars. The other player who saw major odds movement after Week 3 was Sam Darnold. The Vikings QB was getting +8367 odds coming into the week, but is now as short as +2800.
- [September 9] Josh Allen did it all for the Bills in Week 1, throwing for 232 yards and two touchdowns, while adding 39 yards on the ground and another two touchdowns. His NFL MVP odds have shortened after the outstanding performance, and DraftKings was even calling him the co-favorite alongside Patrick Mahomes on Sunday night. Joe Burrow, on the other hand, saw his odds fade from +975 to +1500. Jordan Love, who is expected to miss between 3-6 weeks after spraining his MCL, went from +1400 odds to +10000.
- [August 27] As bettors have gotten a good look at Jim Harbaugh’s run-heavy philosophy in the preseason, Justin Herbert’s NFL MVP odds have suffered. Herbert, a perennial top contender for the award, went from +2100 to +3000 in the weeks leading up to the regular season.
- [April 3] After the Texans acquired WR Stefon Diggs, CJ Stroud saw his NFL MVP odds improve from +1200 to as short as +950. That same move resulted in Josh Allen’s odds fading slightly from +760 to +829.
- [March 11] In spite of the new home with some quality weapons around him, Kirk Cousins’ NFL MVP odds didn’t really move after signing with Atlanta today. He remains between +3500 and +4000 to win the award. The same goes for Russell Wilson after signing with the Steelers. He is a longshot between 100-1 and 150-1.
- [February 9] NFL MVP odds for the 2024-25 season opened before the previous season finished, and Patrick Mahomes has began the season as the MVP favorite. He just edged out Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, and Lamar Jackson. Some quarterbacks have opened with vastly different odds this season than they did last year. Here are a few examples: CJ Stroud at +1400 thsi year versus +15000 last year (understandable with him being a rookie, though), Deshaun Watson at +4500 versus +2650, Jared Goff at +2000 versus +4250, Jordan Love at +1200 versus +4000, and Russell Wilson at +10000 versus +4250.
Top 2024 NFL MVP Contenders by Position
2023 NFL MVP Odds
Lamar Jackson won his second NFL MVP during the 2023-24 NFL season. Jackson led the Ravens to an NFC North title and the top seed in the AFC. However, he was only the favorite for two weeks of the season. Look back at how the 2023 NFL MVP odds changed throughout the 2023-24 NFL offseason and each week of the regular season.
Lamar Jackson took over as the NFL MVP favorite after his Ravens took down the 49ers on Christmas night, and he was an extremely heavy favorite after Week 17. Brock Purdy was the odds-on favorite entering the game, but his four interceptions resulted in Jackson being the favorite for the first time this season.
Patrick Mahomes opened as the NFL MVP favorite but only remained the favorite until after Week 2.
Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Christian McCaffrey, Brock Purdy, and Dak Prescott were named the finalists for the NFL MVP.
**All sportsbooks closed down their NFL MVP odds after the conclusion of the regular season, as voting has started and some media members revealed their ballots.
Some notable players’ lines to mention from opening include: Jalen Hurts opening at +1100, which were the fourth-best odds on the board one year after opening at +4500; both Brock Purdy (+2500) and Trey Lance (+3500) were given short odds to win NFL MVP at opening, but Purdy saw his odds fall way off to +7500 in the spring, only to recover to +5000 (tied with Lance at the time) in the summer; Aaron Rodgers was listed at +1600 after being traded to the Jets (but is now off the board after tearing his Achilles four plays into his Jets tenure); Tom Brady is not given odds after retiring for the second time; and there were 24 quarterbacks given better odds than the top non-QB, which was Christian McCaffrey at +8000 odds, ahead of Week 1.
Here are some notes on the NFL MVP odds movement:
- [February 8] Lamar Jackson won the 2023-24 NFL MVP.
- [January 25] The NFL MVP finalists were announced today and include: Lamar Jackson, who was the heavy favorite the last time odds were available, Josh Allen, Christian McCaffrey, Brock Purdy, and Dak Prescott.
- [January 1, 2024] Lamar Jackson threw for 321 yards and five touchdowns in Baltimore’s 56-19 win over the Dolphins in Week 17. Jackson’s NFL MVP odds went from -190 to as short as -20000 following his big performance.
- [December 25] Lamar Jackson became the new odds-on favorite to win NFL MVP after his Ravens handily beat the 49ers, where the then-MVP favorite, Brock Purdy, threw four interceptions.
- [December 17] Dak Prescott and the Cowboys offense put forth an awful effort in Buffalo during Week 15. Prescott threw for 134 yards with an interception as Dallas was demolished by the Bills. The result in MVP odds was Brock Purdy, who threw for 242 yards and four touchdowns in Week 15, not only taking over as the favorite, but becoming an odds-on favorite with -150 odds.
- [December 11] For a second straight week, we have a new NFL MVP favorite. This time it is Dak Prescott who has the best odds to win the award. Prescott led his Cowboys to a 33-13 win over the Eagles in Week 14, which also resulted in his Cowboys taking the top spot in the NFC East for now.
- [December 4] Immediately after the 49ers crushed the Eagles in Week 13, sportsbooks left Jalen Hurts as the MVP favorite. However, we woke up Monday morning to see Brock Purdy and Dak Prescott listed as the new favorites depending where you look. Purdy’s MVP odds improved from +1400 to +300 after throwing for 314 yards and four touchdowns in a 42-19 win over Philadelphia.
- [December 1] In early November, Dak Prescott’s MVP odds were as long as +4750 (average). After Prescott logged another good outing against the Seahawks in Week 13, his MVP odds have improved to as short as +375 and some sportsbooks give him the second-best odds on the board. Others still have him third behind Hurts and Mahomes.
- [November 17] Even after leaving Cincinnati’s Week 11 TNF matchup with the Ravens, Joe Burrow’s MVP odds had only faded from +1350 to +2500. But he has now been removed from the board with the news that he will miss the rest of the season.
- [November 14] Sportsbooks are very split on whether Patrick Mahomes or Jalen Hurts should be the favorite to win NFL MVP. Both QBs were on bye this past weekend, but that didn’t stop the odds from moving. Mahomes has slightly better average odds, but Hurts’ longest odds are shorter than Mahomes’ longest odds.
- [November 6] After beating Tua Tagovailoa and the Dolphins in Germany during Week 9, Patrick Mahomes has once again taken back the top spot in the NFL MVP odds. DraftKings, however, lists Mahomes, Jalen Hurts, and Lamar Jackson as the co-favorites.
- [October 29] The NFL MVP favorite has changed yet again after Week 8, as Tua Tagovailoa has overtaken Patrick Mahomes for the best odds. Mahomes had an ugly outing in Denver, where he committed three turnovers himself, as his Chiefs lost to the Broncos. It should be noted Mahomes was playing with the flu, though.
- [October 24] Patrick Mahomes has taken back over as the NFL MVP favorite after turning in another solid performance, while Tua Tagovailoa and the Dolphins struggled against the Eagles.
- [October 9] Brock Purdy’s NFL MVP odds improved from +2000 to +1000 after throwing for 252 yards and four touchdowns against the Cowboys in Week 5. Fellow 49er Christian McCaffrey also saw significant movement, going from +3000 to +1500, which ties him for the sixth-best odds on the board, just one spot behind Purdy. Patrick Mahomes also took back over as the favorite after Tua Tagovailoa threw two interceptions against the Giants.
- [October 1] Josh Allen has moved into a tie with Tua Tagovailoa for the best NFL MVP odds. Allen’s Bills crushed the Dolphins 48-20 in Week 4, where Tua only threw for one touchdown and added an interception with it. The two are listed at +550 while Mahomes is right behind at +600.
- [September 25] Tua Tagovailoa has pulled away from the field when it comes to NFL MVP odds following Sunday of Week 3. Tagovailoa’s odds improved from +600 to +380 after he threw for 309 yards and four touchdowns en route to Miami’s 70-point performance against the Broncos.
- [September 17] Tagovailoa became the lone favorite to win NFL MVP after Sunday of Week 2. His win in New England resulted in his odds improving from +700 to +600. Joe Burrow saw his odds fade from +850 to +1700 after another lousy performance that led to Cincinnati starting the season 0-2.
- [September 11] Tua Tagovailoa came out of the gate red hot, throwing for 466 yards and three touchdowns in leading his Dolphins to a Week 1 victory over the Chargers. Tua’s NFL MVP odds improved from +2200 to +700, now tied with Mahomes for the best odds, after Sunday of Week 1. Joe Burrow’s odds didn’t move after only throwing for 82 yards in an awful performance against the Browns. Aaron Rodgers was a top ten contender, with +1600 odds, entering his Monday Night Football matchup with the Bills. His odds have faded to +2500 as it is feared he tore his Achilles. He will be removed from the board once the injury is confirmed. (He has now been removed at most sportsbooks.)
- [September 1] Just ahead of kickoff, Patrick Mahomes’ NFL MVP odds have improved from +700 to +600, separating himself from the other top contenders. Joe Burrow has the next-best odds at +750.
- [August 26] Even after being traded to the Cowboys, and effectively turned into a backup this season, Trey Lance’s NFL MVP odds remain at +5000 at DraftKings. FanDuel has dropped Lance to +30000. Brock Purdy’s odds didn’t see any major movement either after winning the starting job.
- [July 13] With all signs pointing to Brock Purdy being ready for the 2023 NFL season, his MVP odds have improved from +7500 to +4500. Trey Lance, who has been rumored to be losing the backup job in San Francisco to Sam Darnold, has seen his odds fade from +3500 to +5000.
- [April 24] After officially being traded to the Jets, Aaron Rodgers’ NFL MVP odds are listed at +1800. His odds were as short as +1600 a month ago, but faded a little in the last few weeks. Jordan Love, who will be the new starting quarterback for the Packers, also saw his odds hold where they were at +3500.
- [March 20] Aaron Rodgers’ NFL MVP odds have remained at +1600 throughout the negotiations between the Packers and Jets. Justin Fields has seen his odds improve from +3000 to +2000 with the Bears adding DJ Moore and some notable defensive names as they look ready to compete in the NFC North. Brock Purdy saw his odds plummet from +2500 to +7500 after successful elbow surgery that will reportedly have him ready in six months, which puts him on track to be ready around Week 2.
- [February 12] Patrick Mahomes, who won the award last season, and Joe Burrow have opened as co-favorites to win the 2023-24 NFL MVP. Both players opened at +650 odds, with Josh Allen, Justin Herbert, and Jalen Hurts rounding out the top five contenders.

2022 NFL MVP Odds
Patrick Mahomes was awarded his second NFL MVP award at the NFL Honors on Thursday, February 9. The Chiefs QB led his team to a 14-3 regular season record, locking up the top seed in the AFC playoffs. Mahomes led the NFL in passing yards (5,250) and passing touchdowns (41).
Entering the 2022 season, the questions were: can Aaron Rodgers win a third straight NFL MVP without Davante Adams? How much will the loss of Tyreek Hill affect Patrick Mahomes? Is it Josh Allen’s time to shine? Sportsbooks thought they had the answers to those questions, but were wrong in many places. Have a look at the 2022 NFL MVP odds at opening and how they moved throughout the offseason and regular season.
Even with Aaron Rodgers’ future with the Packers being very uncertain entering March, sportsbooks obviously didn’t feel a change of scenery, or another birthday, for the back-to-back NFL MVP would be detrimental at all. Rodgers still opened as a top three contender to win the 2022 NFL MVP award based on the opening odds. His odds did not change much after he announced he would be returning to the Packers. They did fade shortly after Green Bay traded away Davante Adams, though.
Younger quarterbacks took over the top of the odds board, as Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, and Jalen Hurts were the top four contenders for the latter part of the season. We did not see any sportsbooks reopen NFL MVP odds – or any other player award – since Week 18 kicked off.

*Odds updated January 2, 2023 from Caesars Sportsbook
Patrick Mahomes was named the 2022-23 NFL MVP, beating out fellow finalists Joe Burrow, Josh Allen, Jalen Hurts, and Justin Jefferson. Prior to Hurts getting injured, it was the Eagles QB who had taken over as the favorite to win the award.
Here are some notes on the 2022-23 NFL MVP odds movement:
- [December 19] Jalen Hurts was the odds-on favorite to win NFL MVP after Sunday of Week 15. Hurts’ odds were -145 with Patrick Mahomes trailing at +150. But with news surfacing that Hurts suffered a sprained shoulder against the Bears, and potentially worse news to come, the Eagles’ QB has seen his MVP odds plummet to as long as +700. Mahomes has taken back over as the heavy favorite.
- [December 11] For the first time this season, Jalen Hurts is the favorite to win NFL MVP. Hurts threw for 217 yards and two TDs, while adding 77 yards on the ground and another touchdown, in Philadelphia’s Week 14 crushing of the Giants. Hurts’ odds improved from +160 to -110, while Mahomes, who was favored entering the week, faded from +115 to +200 after throwing three interceptions against the Broncos.
- [December 4] A loss to the Bengals sees Patrick Mahomes’ odds fade from-160 to -110. Mahomes remains the favorite, but Jalen Hurts is closing in after throwing for 380 yards and three touchdowns in Week 13. Hurts’ odds improved from +400 to +170. A turnover-filled game saw Tua Tagovailoa drop from the top three contenders, allowing Joe Burrow to sneak in with his odds moving from +1800 to +1000 after outdueling the Chiefs.
- [November 20] Patrick Mahomes led his Chiefs to another big win over the Chargers in Week 11, throwing for 329 yards and three touchdowns. The Chiefs QB has become the odds-on favorite to win NFL MVP after another great performance. Mahomes’ odds improved from +120 to -110.
- [November 14] After throwing two costly interceptions in the Bills loss to the Vikings in Week 10, Josh Allen has fallen out of the top tier of NFL MVP contenders. Allen’s odds faded from +275 to +500. After Philadelphia suffered their first loss of the season, Jalen Hurts saw his odds fade from +280 to +600.
- [November 7] Josh Allen remained the favorite to win NFL MVP after losing to the Jets in Week 9. His odds faded from +125 to +225. HOWEVER, as concern continued to grow on Monday over the elbow injury Allen suffered against the Jets, Mahomes has swooped in as the new favorite with +200 odds. Geno Smith’s odds took a major leap after Week 9, going from +10000 to +2500, tying the Seahawks QB for the sixth-best odds to win the award.
- [October 31] Jalen Hurts, Patrick Mahomes, and Josh Allen all have better than 4-1 odds to win NFL MVP after Week 8. Allen is the favorite at +125.
- [October 16] Josh Allen’s NFL MVP odds have improved from +200 to +125 after he led the Bills to a big victory in Kansas City. Mahomes’ odds faded from +450 to +550 with the loss to Allen’s Bills, and falls back to third as Jalen Hurts now has the second-best odds to win the award.
- [September 29] Tua Tagovailoa’s NFL MVP odds have been removed from the board following his scary head injury during Thursday Night Football of Week 4. Tagovailoa’s odds were +1400 entering the game.
- [September 25] Although his team lost in Week 3, Josh Allen remains the favorite to win NFL MVP. Allen’s odds did not budge from the +300 they were listed at entering the weekend. Lamar Jackson’s NFL MVP odds improved from +1200 to +700 after another big game.
- [September 20] Josh Allen is back to being the favorite to win NFL MVP at all sportsbooks, moving from +450 to +300 after lighting up the Titans for 317 yards and four touchdowns. Jalen Hurts now has the third-best NFL MVP odds, as he improved from +1400 to +800 after an extremely impressive showing against the Vikings.
- [September 19] After a wild fourth quarter comeback against the Ravens that saw Tua Tagovailoa throw for 469 yards and six touchdowns, the Dolphins QB has seen his NFL MVP odds improve from +4000 to +1800, which are tied for the seventh-best odds on the board.
- [September 12] The NFL MVP odds are very different depending on which sportsbook you are looking at. Caesars Sportsbook and Barstool Sportsbook both list Patrick Mahomes as their favorite, with Barstool having the Chiefs QB as short as +300 following his five touchdowns against the Cardinals. BetMGM, DraftKings, and FanDuel all have kept Josh Allen as their favorite. Jalen Hurts has also vaulted himself into the top five contenders after throwing for 243 yards and adding another 90 on the ground. Matthew Stafford, Aaron Rodgers, and Russell Wilson, on the other hand, saw their NFL MVP odds plummet following awful Week 1 showings – Wilson didn’t play horrible, but his Broncos were upset by the Seahawks.
- [September 7] Looking to the aggregate NFL MVP odds, Justin Herbert has jumped Aaron Rodgers for the fourth-best odds on the board. Tua Tagovailoa, Kirk Cousins, and Trey Lance have all seen their odds to win NFL MVP improve ahead of kickoff as well. Lance has gone from +3500 to +2750.
- [July 26] Josh Allen is the new favorite to win 2022-23 NFL MVP. Allen has taken over for Mahomes after the Chiefs QB saw his favorite target get traded to the Dolphins, and other AFC West teams really improve their rosters this offseason. Jalen Hurts has seen his MVP odds improve significantly, from +5000 to +3000, with the Eagles adding AJ Brown.
- [March 23] In spite of losing his best receiver, as Kansas City traded Tyreek Hill to the Dolphins, Patrick Mahomes’ NFL MVP odds have not moved yet at Caesars Sportsbook. Mahomes remains the favorite at +750. However, FanDuel now lists Mahomes and Josh Allen as the co-favorites, and DraftKings has Allen as the favorite. You can get Mahomes at +800 odds at DraftKings Sportsbook App if you don’t believe the loss of Hill will slow the QB down.
- [March 18] Deshaun Watson’s NFL MVP odds have improved further to +2000 after the QB has chosen to waive his no-trade clause to be dealt to the Cleveland Browns. Aaron Rodgers’ MVP odds have daded from +800 to +1000 after his Packers traded away his favorite receiver, Davante Adams. Derek Carr has not seen any movement resulting from the Adams trade, though.
- [March 14] Tom Brady announced he will forego retirement and return to the Buccaneers for the 2022-23 NFL season on Sunday night. Even in retirement, sportsbooks left Brady on the board for NFL MVP odds, but at a lengthy +4500. He is now listed at just +900, tied for the third-best, in the odds to win NFL MVP. Russell Wilson’s MVP odds have continued to improve as well since he was traded to the Broncos. Wilson’s odds have improved from +3000 to +1500, making him a top seven contender. Deshaun Watson, who had all criminal charges dropped late last week, is now given +2500 odds to win MVP.
- [February 16] Online sportsbook apps have begun opening their 2022 NFL MVP odds. Caesars Sportsbook has opened with Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers listed as the co-favorites at +700 odds. However, Barstool Sportsbook has opened Josh Allen as the favorite at +500 odds. This is in line with Barstool also having the Bills listed as the favorites in their Super Bowl odds. Taking the average across the sportsbooks with NFL MVP odds available, Patrick Mahomes is considered the favorite. Oddly enough, Tom Brady has been given +4500 odds to win the 2022 NFL MVP, despite announcing his retirement. He has better odds than a number of active quarterbacks, including: Baker Mayfield, Kirk Cousins, and Carson Wentz.

Here are some notes on the NFL MVP odds movement:
- [February 10] Aaron Rodgers was named the 2021-22 NFL MVP at the NFL Honors, beating out Tom Brady for the award. Rodgers has won the award in back-to-back seasons now.
- [January 10] Aaron Rodgers saw his NFL MVP odds improve from -400 to -500 after Week 18. Joe Burrow’s odds faded from +1000 to +2500 after he sat out the Bengals final regular season game.
- [January 3] Joe Burrow saw his NFL MVP odds improve from +3500 to +1000, the third-best odds on the board, after throwing for 446 yards and four touchdowns in a Week 17 win over the Chiefs. Aaron Rodgers remains the odds-on favorite to win NFL MVP, though, and his odds improved from -175 to -400.
- [December 27] Aaron Rodgers has moved to the odds-on favorite to win NFL MVP after throwing for 202 yards and three touchdowns in Week 16. Jonathan Taylor now has the second-best NFL MVP odds, overtaking Tom Brady. The Bucs’ QB saw his odds fade from +200 to +750 after only throwing for one touchdown against the Panthers on Sunday. Matthew Stafford saw his odds go from +1000, fourth-best entering the weekend, to +5000 after throwing three interceptions against the Vikings.
- [December 20] Aaron Rodgers is the new favorite to win NFL MVP. The reigning league MVP saw his odds improve from +500 to +125 after throwing for 268 yards and three touchdowns in a win over the Ravens in Baltimore. Tom Brady’s NFL MVP odds slipped from -175 to +175 after his Buccaneers were shutout by the Saints in Week 15. Brady accounted for two turnovers in the game: one interception and one fumble lost. Kyler Murray and Dak Prescott both saw their NFL MVP odds fade significantly after the two struggled again on Sunday, opening up a lane for Jonathan Taylor to jump into the top five contenders.
- [December 13] For the first time this season, we have an odds-on favorite to win NFL MVP. After Tom Brady led the Bucs to an overtime win over the Bills in Week 14, throwing for 363 yards and two touchdowns, and saw his NFL MVP odds improve from +175 to -150. Josh Allen, who had been a top contender basically all season, saw his odds fade from +1000 to +2000, dropping him out of the top seven contenders.
- [December 7] Josh Allen was faced with battling some of the worst weather we’ve seen in Week 13, and his Bills fell to the Patriots in a crucial Week 13 matchup. As a result, Allen’s NFL MVP odds faded from +500, which were second-best heading into the weekend, to +1000, the fourth-best.
- [November 29] Aaron Rodgers saw his NFL MVP odds improve from +1000 to +600 after taking down the LA Rams in Week 12. As a result, Matthew Stafford saw his odds to win NFL MVP fade from +1000 to +1600.
- [November 22] After another game where he threw two interceptions, this time against the Colts, Josh Allen is no longer the favorite to win NFL MVP. Tom Brady now has the best NFL MVP odds after picking apart the Giants for 307 yards and two touchdowns. Jonathan Taylor’s five-touchdown performance against the Bills saw his odds improve from +10000 to +2000, putting him among the top ten contenders.
- [November 15] Patrick Mahomes finally looked like himself against the Raiders on Sunday Night Football, passing for 406 yards and five touchdowns in a 41-14 rout. His MVP odds improved from +6500 to +1800. But favorite Josh Allen also put up big numbers against the Jets (366 yards, two touchdowns), shortening his odds from +350 to +250.
- [November 8] Week 9 was not kind to NFL MVP favorites. Josh Allen, who was the lone favorite entering the week, Matthew Stafford, and Dak Prescott all struggled mightily, with the first two throwing multiple interceptions. Aaron Rodgers and Kyler Murray did not play due to COVID-19 and injury, respectively. Lamar Jackson played a good game, seeing him move back into the top five contenders. Tom Brady’s NFL MVP odds also benefitted thanks to his Bucs being on bye. Brady is now listed as the co-favorite alongside Josh Allen.
- [November 1] Josh Allen is breaking away from the pack in NFL MVP odds. The Bills QB now has odds as short as +200 at some sportsbooks. Both Dak Prescott, thanks to sitting out Week 8 with an injury, and Kyler Murray, who lost to the Packers, saw their NFL MVP odds worsen. Derrick Henry is also potentially out of the running for NFL MVP as he awaits confirmation on the severity of his foot injury.
- [October 25] While on bye, Josh Allen became the favorite to win NFL MVP again. It’s not that Kyler Murray or Matthew Stafford played poorly, but they didn’t have the huge performances many expected considering their Week 7 opponents. Injury concerns around Dak Prescott would be to blame for his odds fading slightly. Surprisingly, we haven’t seen Tom Brady’s NFL MVP odds improve much, in spite of him leading the league in both passing yards and touchdowns. Joe Burrow and Derek Carr saw their odds imopove significantly after eye-catching performances in Week 7. Patrick Mahomes is no longer among the top ten contenders after an awful outing against the Titans.
- [October 19] Josh Allen is no longer the favorite to win the NFL MVP after his Bills were upset by the Titans in Week 6. Dak Prescott and Kyler Murray are now tied for the best odds to win NFL MVP. Derrick Henry is now among the top ten contenders after rushing for 143 yards and three touchdowns in Week 6. The Titans running back now has 725 rushing yards in his last five games.
- [October 11] Patrick Mahomes’ NFL MVP odds have faded all the way to +2000 as the Chiefs lost their third game of the season in Week 5. Mahomes is not even among the top five contenders anymore. Josh Allen has taken over as the favorite after Kyler Murray had a bit of a quiet week.
- [October 4] Kyler Murray has broken away from the pack after Week 4, where he led his Cardinals to an upset win over the Rams. On the other side, Matthew Stafford saw his NFL MVP odds fade after the bad loss. Dak Prescott continues to see his odds improve, making a large jump after throwing four touchdowns against the Panthers in Week 4.
- [September 27] For the first time this year, Patrick Mahomes is not the favorite to win NFL MVP. Depending where you look, any of Kyler Murray, Tom Brady, Josh Allen, or Matthew Stafford have better odds to win NFL MVP after Mahomes’ Chiefs dropped their second straight game of the season.
- [September 20] Some sportsbooks are listing Kyler Murray the co-favorite in their NFL MVP odds after he threw for 400 yards and three touchdowns, adding one more on the ground, in a win over the Vikings in Week 2. Derek Carr is also seeing significant movement in his NFL MVP odds, as he’s now a top ten contender after he has the Raiders off to a 2-0 start with wins over the Ravens and Steelers to start the season.
- [September 14] After Week 1, Matthew Stafford and Kyler Murray saw their NFL MVP odds improve significantly, both jumping into the top five contenders, pushing Aaron Rodgers and Josh Allen out. Jalen Hurts and Jameis Winston also saw their NFL MVP odds improve after strong Week 1 performances. All of Matt Ryan, Carson Wentz, and Ryan Tannehill plummeted down the board after rough games to open the 2021 NFL season.
- [September 9] Ahead of the 2021 NFL season kickoff, Russell Wilson’s NFL MVP odds have shortened from an average of +1733 to +1550, putting him among the top five contenders. Dak Prescott’s odds have taken a small hit prior to Dallas’ trip to Tampa Bay to take on the defending champs.
- [August 23] Despite concerns over Dak Prescott not being fully healthy, the Cowboys QB has seen his NFL MVP odds remain a little longer than 15-1. Carson Wentz’ odds haven’t seen any major movement, either. The Colts QB is back on the practice field and looking like he might not miss any time due to his foot surgery.
- [June 14] Patrick Mahomes’ NFL MVP odds continue to shorten, now reaching an average of +488. Aaron Rodgers’ odds, on the other hand, have started to fade as the possibility of the reigning MVP sitting out for the season becomes more and more real. Deshaun Watson’s odds also continue to freefall with his future completely up in the air. Ryan Tannehill’s NFL MVP odds have shortened from an average of +3275 to +2800 after the Titans acquired Julio Jones, giving Tannehill two very good options on the outside with Jones and AJ Brown.
- [May 3] No player saw their NFL MVP odds improve more thanks to the NFL Draft than Matt Ryan. Not only did the Falcons pass on taking Ryan’s eventual successor with the fourth-overall pick, but they provided their quarterback with arguably the best pass-catcher in the draft in Kyle Pitts. Ryan’s NFL MVP odds opened at +10000, were still +8000 prior to the draft, and have now improved to +4150, putting him among the top 20 contenders.
- [March 30] For very different reasons, all of Justin Herbert, Russell Wilson, and Deshaun Watson have seen their 2021 NFL MVP odds worsen. Herbert’s odds went from +1800 to +2500, a much more reasonable price for the second-year QB. Wilson’s odds moved from +1300 to +2000 as concerns grow over how much Russ will be allowed to cook this season. Watson went from +1700 to +2500 as the current Texans signal-caller faces some very serious sexual assault allegations.
- [February 18] Carson Wentz’ NFL MVP odds have improved from +4000 to +3000 after being traded to Indianapolis, reuniting him with his old offensive coordinator Frank Reich. With Jalen Hurts locked in as the starter in Philadelphia now, his NFL MVP odds have improved from +12500 to +8000.
- [February 9] Patrick Mahomes has opened as the favorite to win the 2021 NFL MVP. Matthew Stafford has opened as a top five contender after being traded to the Los Angeles Rams, and Justin Herbert opened as a top ten contender after his promising rookie season.

- [December 14] Patrick Mahomes is still the odds-on favorite to win the NFL MVP in spite of throwing three interceptions against the Dolphins in Week 14. - [November 17] For the first time since Week 3, Russell Wilson is no longer the favorite to win NFL MVP; The Seahawks’ QB threw two more interceptions in Week 10 against the Rams and his team has now dropped three of their last four. Patrick Mahomes, the only other player to be favored at any point this year, is back to being atop the odds board.
- [November 10] Russell Wilson remains the MVP favorite despite a turnover-filled performance in Week 9; Josh Allen re-entered the top five contenders after his odds improved from +2975 to +1538; Tom Brady’s odds took a huge hit after an awful game against the Saints, seeing his odds worsen from +988 to +2750.

- [October 20] The mediocre/poor play in Week 6 from many top contenders – Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers, Josh Allen – has resulted in Russell Wilson becoming the odds-on favorite to win NFL MVP while on bye; Ryan Tannehill has finally cracked the top ten contenders, as well.
- [October 14] Russell Wilson is now even-money (+100 odds) to win 2020 NFL MVP following a Week 5 comeback victory against the Vikings.

Just like Patrick Mahomes the year before, Lamar Jackson exploded in his second season in the NFL, throwing for 36 touchdowns and adding another seven rushing. He broke the single-season record for rushing yards by a quarterback with 1,206 and posted a very impressive 113.3 passer rating.
As a result, he took home the 2019 NFL MVP award. But as you can see, he wasn’t always the favorite.

Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs claimed the 2018 NFL MVP award, edging out Drew Brees. But he certainly wasn’t the early betting favorite. - (11/21/18) For the first time since September 18th, Mahomes is not the favorite to win MVP; Drew Brees has seized that title
- (11/07/18) For the first time this season, Mahomes is listed as the odds-on favorite to win MVP
- (09/26/18) – Patrick Mahomes has established himself as the clear cut favorite in the MVP race, after throwing an NFL-record 13 TDs in his first three games of the season
- (04/10/18) – Even though he’ll be 41 years old before the 2018 season starts, Tom Brady still opens as the favorite to win NFL MVP at +600, which is a little longer than the +450 he opened at in 2017

Top 2018 NFL MVP Contenders by Position
The award was once again won by a quarterback, making it six straight seasons a pivot has won NFL MVP.

AFC vs NFC Top Contenders
- (05/23/18) – That ratio has increased to 7:2 now in favor of the NFC.
- (04/10/18) – Not only does the NFC hold the majority of the top Super Bowl 53 contenders, but they also possess a large number of the top candidates for the NFL MVP. There are ten players in the NFC with odds of +2000 or shorter, while the AFC only has four.

- (11/18/18) – The NFC East is the only division without any players receiving MVP odds
- (05/23/18) – Josh Allen has joined Tom Brady as the only two QBs from the AFC East with NFL MVP odds, but it was more of a pity invite at +12000. Allen’s arrival does pull the division into a tie for the fewest MVP candidates at four with the NFC North, though.
- (05/23/18) – The AFC North has also broken away from the AFC South for the most MVP candidates with a whopping ten, as they added Baker Mayfield, Lamar Jackson, and Myles Garrett. All of them are extreme long-shots, but it’s better to be on the list than not.
- (04/10/18) – The fact that Tom Brady is the only QB in the AFC East who has odds to win NFL MVP in 2018 says a lot about the division. With only three players receiving odds, one of which is a tight end, the AFC East is the division with the fewest MVP candidates – the AFC North and AFC South are tied for the most with seven each.
- (04/10/18) – The Miami Dolphins and New York Jets are the only two teams in the league without a player listed in the odds. Even the Cleveland Browns got some love with Tyrod Taylor.
