It’s David vs Goliath in the knockout stage when England (2-1-0, +3 GD) take on DR Congo (1-1-1, +1 GD) in Atlanta on July 1.

England enters the match ranked fourth in the world, 42 spots ahead of the DRC (46th).

Oddsmakers expect a swift victory for the Three Lions, opening England as a heavy favorite to – not just advance – but do so in 90 minutes.

England’s Path to Knockout Stage

England finished first in Group L thanks to a 4-2 win over Croatia, 0-0 draw with Ghana, and 2-0 victory against Panam on the final matchday.

Harry Kane leads the Three Lions with three goals so far, while Jude Bellingham has added a pair, and Marcus Rashford one off the bench against the Croats.

DRC’s Path to Round of 32

Congo’s path to the knockout stage was impressive by any measure. They played heavily-favored Portugal to a 1-1 draw on the first matchday, thanks to a Yoane Wissa equalizer in the dying seconds of the first half coupled with elite defending in the final 45 minutes.

They nearly managed another draw against favored Colombia next time out, falling 1-0 on a 76th-minute goal from Daniel Muñoz.

With their tournament lives on the line on Saturday night, they rallied valiantly from an early 1-0 deficit to down Uzbekistan 3-1 and finish with four group-stage points, more than enough to be one of the eight-best third-place teams.

Newcastle striker Wissa again spearheaded the comeback with the tying and go-ahead goals.
