It’s the proven favorite against the dangerous qualifier, as Madison Keys faces Qinwen Zheng in Round 3 women’s singles action at the US Open.

Keys, a healthy betting favorite Saturday, holds the World No. 24 ranking, while Zheng sits back at No. 121.

Action gets underway this morning at 11am ET from the Grandstand court at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, New York.

The match can be seen live on ESPN for American viewers, while Canadians can tune into TSN to watch the match.

Keys vs Zheng Picks and Best Bets

Tennis Abstract’s Aug. 31 Elo ratings put Keys at 1,974.8 overall and 1,910.0 on hard courts, compared with Zheng at 1,829.0 overall and 1,807.6 on hard courts. Tennis Ratio’s 52-week comparison also favors Keys in dominance ratio (1.332 to 0.948), breakpoints-prevail ratio (1.582 to 1.134), match efficiency (1.642 to 1.280), return games won (35.2% to 25.5%), and first-serve accuracy (63.9% to 54.5%). Those are the key data points supporting the pick.

Zheng still has a credible path to an upset. She wins more first-serve points (74.4% to 69.8%), has a 60% tiebreak-win rate compared with Keys’ 50%, and already beat Keys in Miami this season. However, the broader hard-court profile says that match should not be treated as the expected outcome. Keys has also arrived with four wins in her past six hard-court matches, while Zheng’s recent hard-court run includes two US Open wins plus qualifying victories but losses in Washington and Toronto.

That price implies less than the roughly 69% hard-court win probability suggested by the 102-point hard-court Elo gap. Keys’ superior return numbers, stronger break-point profile, and 1-1 head-to-head record make her the better value side, even though Zheng’s serve keeps the upset live.

Zheng has enough serving power to force a close set, but Keys’ higher return-games-won rate and better overall efficiency give her a path to winning by a margin if she avoids a deciding-set tiebreak.

The total market lists the over at 49 cents, or approximately +104, with the under at 52 cents, or approximately -108. I still prefer the over as a smaller secondary play. Their 2026 meeting went three sets, Zheng won only 94-88 in total points, and both players created double-digit break-point opportunities.

Keys is my pick to win, but Zheng’s serve and tiebreak record make a competitive match more likely than a routine straight-set result.

The head-to-head is tied 1-1, not a Zheng advantage. Keys won their first meeting in Washington in straight sets, while Zheng won the more recent meeting in Miami after dropping the opener. That history supports respecting Zheng’s upset path, but it does not erase Keys’ stronger current hard-court indicators.

In Miami, Zheng’s serve was a major factor: she fired 11 aces compared with four from Keys. Both players generated double-digit break points, but Zheng converted 4 of 13 chances and Keys converted 2 of 12. The matchup can absolutely become physical and volatile, yet Keys’ superior 52-week return production and hard-court Elo make her the more reliable side at the current moneyline.

Qinwen Zheng holds a 1-0 head-to-head advantage over Madison Keys, securing a gritty three-set victory at Miami earlier this season. Despite dropping the opening set, Zheng dictated the tempo through a dominant service performance, firing 11 aces compared to just four from Keys.

The decisive dynamic for my handicap is the ability to convert critical break opportunities. Both players generated double-digit break points, but Zheng capitalized on 4 of her 13 chances. Keys managed to convert just 2 of 12. For my money, Zheng possesses the clutch execution needed to challenge the chalk, making her an intriguing option today if her service game remains dialed in.
