After a revealing opening slate, I am looking to capitalize on market overreactions in the NFL Week 2 odds. The action kicks off under the prime-time lights on Thursday, September 17, when the Detroit Lions visit the Buffalo Bills in a clash of 1-0 squads. The week wraps up with a Monday night showdown as the New York Giants (1-0) travel to face the reeling Los Angeles Rams (0-1) on September 21.

My Week 2 straight-up picks rae loaded with underdog value plays where the market is handing out mispriced odds. Six of my sixteen straight-up picks target underdogs priced below 43¢ – teams that Polymarket and Kalshi are treating like big longshots despite superior Week 1 metrics.

I will break down the complete slate, outline marquee matchups, and uncover where the betting value truly lies in Week 2.

Best Bets Straight-Up Picks for NFL Week 2

  • Ravens (79.5¢ on Polymarket) over Saints

While 79.5¢ is a steep straight-up price, Baltimore offers the highest floor on the entire board. This play is less about Baltimore’s opening point total and more about a brutal structural mismatch for New Orleans. The Ravens’ offensive identity – built on multi-threat option volume between Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry behind a powerful interior line – forces opposing defenses to play assignment-sound football in heavy packages.

New Orleans struggles to maintain gap integrity when forced out of nickel personnel, and asking them to travel for a second consecutive week against an elite rushing attack is a recipe for physical wear-and-tear. Back Baltimore’s overwhelming personnel advantages and home-field strength to control tempo and dictate the terms of this game from start to finish.

  • Steelers (30.5¢ on Polymarket) over Patriots

Getting Pittsburgh at 30.5¢ (effectively +228 implied odds) represents one of the sharpest value plays of Week 2. The betting market often overreacts to home-field status early in the season, discounting a Pittsburgh team whose defensive identity remains one of the most bankable commodities in football.

With a ferocious edge-rushing rotation led by T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith, Pittsburgh generates organic pass rush without needing to compromise backend coverage. That presents major schematic trouble for young quarterback Drake Maye and a New England offensive line that is still ironing out its communication in pass protection. In what profiles as a low-possession, grinding, one-score contest, a battle-tested quarterback and game-wrecking defense give the Steelers far more than a 30% shot to win outright.

  • Lions (35.0¢ on Kalshi) over Bills

This Thursday night showdown offers tremendous expected value on Detroit at 35.5¢ (+182 implied). While Buffalo rightfully commands respect at home behind Josh Allen, pricing Detroit as a nearly 2-to-1 underdog ignores the Lions’ elite offensive balance. Detroit’s offensive line consistently generates clean pockets for Jared Goff and creates lanes for Jahmyr Gibbs between the tackles, neutralizing opposing pass rushes with quick-timing concepts to Amon-Ra St. Brown.

Buffalo’s aggressive defensive scheme frequently invites shootouts against top-tier offenses. In a projected high-scoring, high-variance matchup with two top-tier scoring units, taking the dog with the superior offensive line at better than a 2:1 payout is mathematically the sharp side of the coin.

  • Jets (33.5¢ on Polymarket) over Packers

The market is handing us substantial underdog value on New York at 33.5¢ (+199 implied) in a classic early-season contrast in styles. Week 1 defensive box scores can be noisy, but the Jets’ foundational strengths – disruptive defensive front four, sticky perimeter coverage, and an offense built around Breece Hall’s dual-threat versatility – are tailor-made to exploit Green Bay’s defensive tendencies.

When Jordan Love is forced to work against two-high coverage shells and consistent interior pressure without blitz assistance, the Packers’ explosive pass concepts can stall out in the red zone. If the Jets can control the line of scrimmage, stay ahead of the chains, and limit turnovers, they have all the ingredients to pull off the home upset.

  • Giants (24.0¢ on Kalshi) over Rams

At 24.0¢ (+317 implied odds), the market is pricing New York as a complete afterthought, creating massive value on a live underdog. This matchup comes down to pass protection versus edge disruption. The Giants’ defensive front features a relentless, athletic edge rush that can collapse the pocket quickly and disrupt timing-dependent passing offenses.

Matthew Stafford remains elite when protected, but when forced off his spot, the Rams’ downfield concepts take longer to develop. Offensively, Jaxson Dart’s dual-threat mobility adds an off-schedule dimension that forces opposing linebackers into coverage conflict. Getting greater than a 4-to-1 payout on an underdog whose defensive front can single-handedly dictate game script is one of the premier longshot value bets on the board.

  • Bengals (40.5¢ on Polymarket) over Texans

Backing Cincinnati at 40.5¢ (+147 implied odds) offers fantastic plus-money value in a heavyweight matchup between two elite signal-callers. While Houston’s pass rush tandem poses a threat, Joe Burrow operates one of the quickest time-to-throw passing systems in football, effectively neutralizing edge pressure with quick-hitting concepts to Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.

Defensively, Cincinnati excels at showing split-safety shells before rotating post-snap, forcing quarterbacks like C.J. Stroud to hold the ball a split second longer. When two high-ceiling offenses collide in what projects as a back-and-forth, one-possession affair, backing the proven quarterback-receiver continuity at a plus-money discount provides significant positive expected value.

  • Jaguars (42.5¢ on Polymarket) over Broncos

Pricing Denver as a clear home favorite at 57.5¢ gives us a very attractive buy point on Jacksonville at 42.5¢ (+135 implied). The schematic matchup heavily favors the Jaguars’ offensive versatility. Trevor Lawrence is surrounded by dynamic vertical separators in Brian Thomas Jr. and two-way weapon Travis Hunter, presenting matchup nightmares on intermediate boundary routes.

On the other side of the ball, Jacksonville’s defensive front—anchored by Josh Hines-Allen and Travon Walker—creates consistent interior and edge pressure, which disrupts pocket passers before deeper progressions can materialize. In a contest with a projected narrow spread, getting the more explosive perimeter offense as an underdog is a strong structural play.

  • Raiders (26.5¢ on Polymarket) over Chargers

AFC West divisional games are notoriously tight, high-variance battles where familiarity consistently closes the talent gap – making Las Vegas at 26.5¢ (+277 implied) an egregious market over-adjustment. The Chargers enter as heavy home favorites, but the Raiders have the exact defensive blueprint to make Justin Herbert uncomfortable: an elite edge pass rush led by Maxx Crosby that can generate pressure without vacating coverage underneath.

Offensively, rookie running back Ashton Jeanty provides Las Vegas with a high-floor ground game that sustains drives, moves the chains, and keeps Herbert on the sideline. Implied odds of less than 27% dramatically underestimate the volatility of a divisional rivalry with game-wrecking defensive talent.
