  • Thursday’s NHL slate has several strong shot-volume spots for player prop bettors
  • Two of my picks target defenses that are giving up 27 or more shots per game
  • See my NHL player props today for Thursday, Oct. 22, plus the trends behind each pick

Thursday brings a full NHL card, and I’m focusing on the shots-on-goal market for my player props today. Shot volume is easier to project than goals, and a few matchups set up nicely for high-volume shooters.

The Wild visit the Flames, the Hurricanes head to Edmonton to face the Oilers, and the Kings travel to UBS Arena to take on the Islanders. Calgary and Los Angeles have both struggled to keep pucks out of their net early this season.

Check the latest NHL odds for every game tonight. My shots-on-goal picks and an anytime-goalscorer selection for Thursday, Oct. 22 are below.

Kirill Kaprizov Shots Prop: Wild vs Flames

  • Kirill Kaprizov Over 3.5 Shots on Goal (-105 at theScore Bet)

I’m starting with Kaprizov, who has cleared 3.5 shots on goal in four of his last six games. He’s averaging 4.17 shots per game over that stretch.

The matchup helps. Calgary is allowing 29.5 shots per game, and its 4.50 goals-against average and .844 team save percentage give Kaprizov every reason to keep firing.

Leon Draisaitl Shots Prop: Hurricanes vs Oilers

  • Leon Draisaitl Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (-150 at BetMGM)

Draisaitl has gone over 2.5 shots in six straight home games, averaging 4.17 shots in that split. He’s also five-for-five on this over/under in home games after a win, averaging 4.2 shots in those games.

Carolina is the toughest test of my three picks. The Hurricanes allow just 22.36 shots per game with a 2.45 goals-against average. Still, Draisaitl has 32 shots through nine games, and his home volume is enough for me to back the over.

Bo Horvat Shots Prop: Kings vs Islanders

  • Bo Horvat Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (-160 at Bet365)

Wrapping up my NHL player props today, I’m heading to UBS Arena for Horvat. The Islanders center has cleared 2.5 shots in five straight home games, averaging 3.4 per night.

He’s also over this number in nine of his last 11 games against teams with a losing record, averaging 3.73 shots. Los Angeles allows 27.14 shots per game with a .860 team save percentage, so I like Horvat to extend his home streak.

NHL Anytime Goalscorer Pick: Kirill Kaprizov

  • Selection: Kirill Kaprizov to score anytime (-110 at theScore Bet)

Kaprizov is my anytime-goalscorer selection for Wild vs Flames. His recent shot volume gives him opportunities against a Calgary team allowing 4.50 goals per game. This is a player selection, not a priced bet: I need a live quote before judging whether the payout offers value.
