After you have received your five $20 bonus bets + one $50 bonus bet in the ESPN Bet app, all that’s left to do is use them. In order to use them, select whatever bet you want to make, and then you will have to manually select one of the $20 (or $50) bonus bets while viewing your betslip. This is what you will see in your betslip below:
To be clear, these $20/50 bonus bets will not be automatically applied. So, do not enter a wager amount in your betslip, just select the bonus bet. If you’re more curious about what bets you should make with your five $20 bonus bets (and single $50 bonus bet), the simplest answer is to bet underdogs. Let me quickly explain by looking at the EV (expected value) of a few different bets, and let’s just assume there is no house edge:
- If you risk your $50 bonus bet on a -200 favorite
- Implied probability of winning the bet = 66.7%
- Potential profit = $25
- Expected value (A x B) = $16.68
- If you risk your $50 bonus bet on a -110 spread/total bet
- Implied probability of winning the bet = 52.4%
- Potential profit = $45.45
- Expected value = $23.82
- If you risk your $50 bonus bet on a +200 underdog
- Implied probability of winning the bet = 33.3%
- Potential profit = $100
- Expected value = $33.33

- Implied probability of winning the bet = 20%
- Potential profit = $200
- Expected value = $40
In order to quickly calculate EV, simply multiply the true probability by your potential profit. As you can see, your expected value goes up as your bet goes on a heavier underdog. Keep in mind, expected value does not equal actual value, but they do converge over a large sample size.
You are dealing with a smaller sample size with just five of these bonus bets. But the general idea remains: don’t waste these on extremely heavy favorites.
