At long last, the lineal super featherweight title will be on the line in Houston on Saturday night. WBO and IBF champion Emanuel Navarrete (40-2-1) puts his pair of titles on the line in enemy territory against WBC titleholder O’Shaquie Foster (25-3).

While neither Navarrete nor Foster is a definitive member of any credentialed pound-for-pound rankings list, a win could vault either into the conversation.

Navarrete enters his 44th professional fight eight months after stopping Eduardo Nunez to add the IBF title to his collection. Navarrete’s recent run has still been a rocky road, going just 2-1-1 in his last four outings.

Foster is coming off a majority decision win over Raymond Ford in May, his first defense of his current title reign. The 33-year-old is now on a three-fight win streak since suffering a controversial loss to Robson Conceicao.

Emanuel Navarrete vs. O’Shaquie Foster Prediction

The super featherweight title fight is a clash of styles with everything on the line. Both fighters want to be more active with their footwork and win the outside exchanges, with Navarrete bringing his signature unorthodox approach and Foster fighting more conventionally.

Both fighters desperately need to win the footwork battle early, as they each do their best work when they dictate the pace with their movement. Navarrete, in particular, struggles against fleet-footed boxers who never let him settle in.

Power is certainly with Navarrete, but he might find it difficult to land cleanly on Foster. Opponents of ‘Shock’ only connect on 20.2 percent of their punches, the seventh-lowest rate on Compubox.

Navarrete has had fits dealing with more disciplined boxers before when his power fails to connect. As long as he stays within himself, Foster is poised to become a three-belt champion in his home state.

Albert Gonzalez vs. Edward Vazquez Prediction

This fight will measure the true ceiling of Gonzalez, with the 20-3 Vazquez only losing competitive fights to a trio of championship-caliber fighters. The Mexican is a huge step-up in competition for the young, undefeated American, who has yet to face anyone close to championship level.

Vazquez’s erratic movement and off-beat blitzes can cause problems for a young, patient fighter like Gonzalez. Every fighter who has faced Vazquez took a few rounds to get a read on him, which will force Gonzalez into uncharted territory.

Yet, as one of the most educated young fighters in the sport, Gonzalez has the eyes and defense to deal with a pressure fighter like Vazquez. Gonzalez’s body work will be especially key to thwarting the forward movement.

Gonzalez tends to win fights by knockout but he is a patient fighter who picks his shots from the outside. With Vazquez’s movement likely to slow his progression in the early rounds, expect Gonzalez to improve to 19-0 on the cards.

  • Boxing Picks: Albert Gonzalez by Decision (+150 on theScore Bet)

Frank Martin vs. Tarik Zaina Prediction

Coming off a disappointing draw with Nahir Albright, Frank Martin has a favorable matchup to get back on the championship track. The 31-year-old takes on veteran journeyman Tarik Zaina, who is fighting in the United States for the first time in two years.

Martin is much more skilled than Zaina, whose height and reach have carried him throughout his career. Although Martin struggled with the length of Albright in his last fight, Zaina is much less efficient at managing range with his jab.

Whenever opponents get past his reach, Zaina has minimal inside defense and becomes very hittable. He has yet to be stopped but has also never faced a power puncher like Martin.

The last time Martin fought in Texas, he stopped Rances Barthelemy in the fourth round. ‘The Ghost’ emphatically returns to his winning ways.

  • Boxing Picks: Frank Martin by KO/TKO (-150 on theScore Bet)
