This is not the first time that matchmakers have tried to book this bout. Two previous attempts were scuttled by medical and travel hindrances for Fury, respectively.

Paul Favored in Opening Boxing Odds

While this is one of the more intriguing influencer boxing bouts, Jake Paul has been recently making waves by signing with PFL and targeting future MMA fights. There were rumors for a bit about a possible Paul clash with Nate Diaz in both MMA and boxing. But alas, that is not the next test for the former Disney star.

Paul last donned the gloves in October when he beat former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva via unanimous decision. The combat sports disruptor added another former MMA champion to his resume after prior wins over Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley (on two occasions).

This Paulversus Fury fight was initially booked for December 2021 and after a bit over a year of waiting, it seems to be close to transpiring. Hopefully third time’s the charm here.

‘The Problem Child’ and ‘TNT’ are two of the bigger names in this genre of combat sport and a strong win by either here can vault them to the top of their niche within a niche.

Fury an underdog favored vs Paul

Tommy Fury is an undefeated fighter and is the half-brother of WBC/lineal heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury.

Fury previously fought last April and bested Daniel Bocianski on points. This was a thorough enough performance against his most accomplished opponent so far. Fury even scored a knockdown during the bout’s progression.

Tommy Fury also had an exhibition contest a bit later in 2022 and this would create a volatile situation with Paul who was ringside looking to stir things up.

Jake Paul is 6-0 as a boxer with four knockouts. Conversely, Fury has a professional boxing record of 8-0 with four stoppages. In this upcoming contest, barring a draw, someone’s 0 has got to go.

Expected Paul vs Fury Odds Movement

In terms of how the odds will move closer to the fight, I feel like Paul may even possibly grow into a bit of a bigger favorite. The pugilistic public doesn’t seem to hold Fury in the same regard as Paul which is kind of wild considering Fury has long been more so considered the “career boxer”.

Also, this isn’t a fight announcement for a contest set for many months down the line. This takes place a bit over a month away. So I’m not sure what could happen from now until then to sway oddsmakers’ perceptions that meaningfully.

Fury has had some performances that some saw as underwhelming despite emerging victorious. The public loves a knockout and Paul has a stoppage rate that is a bit better and perception is often reality.

Paul is facing the most experienced pro boxer of his career so far. But that being said, I’m not sure how much that will meaningfully alter the odds here in Fury’s favor.

Perhaps Paul will become a marginally smaller favorite but I see him remaining at least a two-to-one favorite once we’re into fight week.
