  • My Clemson vs Syracuse prediction is an Orange upset in a one-score game
  • The Orange have won two straight games decided by a field goal or less
  • Clemson has won five straight ACC road games heading into Saturday

Syracuse has won its last two Saturdays by a combined four points. Now the Orange get another close one on paper: the Clemson vs Syracuse odds have the Tigers laying two points at the JMA Wireless Dome. Kickoff is noon ET on ESPN2.

Clemson (5-3, 3-2 ACC) just won 36-24 at Florida State. Syracuse (4-4, 2-4 ACC) beat No. 19 SMU on a touchdown pass with 17 seconds left. I like the home dog again, especially with a field goal between the bet winning and losing.

Clemson vs Syracuse Prediction

  • Prediction: Syracuse wins a one-score game.
  • Pick: Syracuse +3.5 (about -159 at BetMGM)

I’m buying past three. At the regular spread of +2, a last-second Clemson field goal can beat both Syracuse and my ticket. At +3.5, that same kick wins the game for Clemson but cashes the Orange bet. That’s the margin I’ll pay for here.

Fran Brown is 11-5 in one-score games at Syracuse. The Orange beat North Carolina 31-30, then went 4-for-4 on fourth down against SMU. On the last drive, Steve Angeli found Noah Meyers from two yards out for the winning score. Those extra possessions matter more to me than Clemson’s better conference record.

Clemson vs Syracuse Odds and Spread

TeamSpreadMoneylineTotal
Clemson-2 (-111)-128Over 49.5 (-111)
Syracuse+2 (-108)+105Under 49.5 (-108)

BetMGM odds as of 3:20 a.m. ET Saturday. Syracuse +3.5 is an alternate spread.

There’s a real difference in price: the Orange are -108 at +2 and 1.63 (about -159) at +3.5. If I wanted to bet on Syracuse winning outright, the moneyline pays +105. I’d rather cover a three-point loss against a Clemson team that has won 11 of its last 13 regular-season road games dating to November 2023.

Why I Like the Orange Against the Spread

Syracuse held SMU to 70 rushing yards and sacked its quarterback four times. The Mustangs still gained 421 yards, so this isn’t a bet that Clemson can’t move the ball. It’s a bet that the Orange can win enough downs to force a kick instead of giving up seven.

Angeli completed 21 of 34 for 200 yards against SMU, and Umari Hatcher caught six passes for 65. Syracuse averages 436.5 yards and 31.4 points per game. The Orange don’t need a repeat of the final drive if that offense gets them an early lead.

The Sportradar betting splits show why the ticket count alone misses something: Clemson drew about 65% of spread bets, while Syracuse drew about 62% of the spread handle. Those numbers describe the market on the regular line; they aren’t percentages for the +3.5 alternate.

Clemson vs Syracuse Total Pick

  • Total pick: Over 49.5 (−111 at BetMGM)

Both teams scored at least 30 last week. Syracuse’s last two games finished with 61 and 57 points, and Clemson scored 36 on the road in Tallahassee. A 27-24 game gets the over home without needing overtime.

The total is where I disagree with the market: Sportradar had roughly 80% of tickets and 83% of money on the under. The stronger play for me is still Syracuse +3.5.
