  • In just a few short weeks, Star Wars  fans will see the new trilogy wrapped up with the release of The Rise of Skywalker on December 20
  • Fans of current Star Wars television series The Mandalorian are hoping for an appearance by that show’s breakout character Baby Yoda to appear in the film
  • The fate of all the characters is nigh, and guesses are on whether or not hero Rey will turn to the Dark Side

Pack those seat cushions and get your bathroom breaks in before the opening credits, Star Wars fans. It’s almost time to wrap up this trilogy.

The upcoming Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is less than two weeks away, and its impending release has fans on the edge of their seat waiting to see how the entire saga is going to unfold.

Ever since Disney purchased the franchise and rebooted the film series with 2015’s The Force Awakens, it’s been a half-decade of mystery and intrigue. That gripping excitement will all wrap up very soon, but the details of the films are still anybody’s bet.

All odds taken Dec. 9

The release of The Rise of Skywalker is timed coincidentally right before the final episode of Disney+ streaming series The Mandalorian. Given that both Skywalker and The Mandalorian exist in the same Star Wars universe, fans are hoping for a crossover.

In terms of canon, The Rise of Skywalker is said to occur after the events of The Mandalorian. So there is definitely room for Baby Yoda, the breakout Mandalorian character, to have been alive during Skywalker‘s timeline.

So far, The Mandalorian is very much a standalone series. The characters are independent of the films. Sure, most Star Wars properties often end up being tied to the franchise in an intricate way and the producers will likely find that tie in eventually. But that tie in will not be Baby Yoda appearing in Skywalker.

There will be so much going on in this film that Baby Yoda would be unnecessary. The plot of Skywalker was probably long complete by the time The Mandalorian and Baby Yoda were even an idea in a board room.

Believe me, nobody wants to see this happen more than I do. Seeing Baby Yoda’s big black eyes in full form on a giant movie theatre screen would make Christmas dreams come true. But logistically, it’s just really unlikely. Nobody is more upset about this than I am.

Will Rey Turn to the Dark Side?

Result Odds
Yes +170

The big discussion surrounding The Rise of Skywalker is whether or not the lead hero Rey (played by Daisy Ridley) will make a turn and join the Dark Side.

Rey’s story arc has been nothing but good since her debut in The Force Awakens, but in the Star Wars universe, anything is possible. Possible, yes, but unlikely.

Presently, Rey is slated to face the menacing Kylo Rey (played by Adam Driver) is a standoff. It’s a battle for the ages and Star Wars followers are waiting for this showdown with sheer anticipation.

There will definitely be some twists and turns in this film. It’s not only the finale of this trilogy but it wraps up a string of every Star Wars film leading up to this final moment. The story has been in the works almost 40 years now, and you can bet Disney is going to give fans what they want.

Having Rey turn out to be a villain would disappoint fans immensely. This is a feel-good Disney holiday release, not an indie art-house film. They’re going to wrap the franchise up with Rey as a hero.

Pick: No (-250)
