A world-class field heads to TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee this week for the WGC FedEx St Jude Invitational. The World Golf Championship events tend to bring a smaller field with golfers from all over the world.
Jon Rahm is the favorite this week in Memphis as the newly crowned top golfer in the world. Rahm had a great tournament at Muirfield Village to win the Memorial Tournament two weeks ago, however, we’re not looking at him to blow away the field this week.

New Face Atop the OWGR
Well, there is a new number one in town. As the top-ranked golfer in the world, every start means a little bit more. Rahm will be under an immense amount of pressure this week at a tricky course in TPC Southwind.
Justin Thomas is Rahm’s matchup this week, and Thomas is on the brink of his first win since the return of the PGA Tour.

Thomas brought the fire and energy at the Workday Charity Open, losing by the skin of his teeth to Collin Morikawa in a playoff. In his last five events, Thomas has a second-place finish, an eighth-place finish at the RBC Heritage Open, and a tenth place finish at the Charles Schwab Challenge.
After a week off, Thomas is ready for a big week at TPC Southwind. Thomas finished 12th at this tournament last year, while Rahm finished seventh. It’s not an easy task playing as the number one golfer in the world, especially in front of such a daunting field.
The last four winners at this event have been big bombers. Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, and Daniel Berger all averaged over 310 yards per drive to win at TPC Southwind. Thomas hits the ball deep and pure if he can roll the ball well on these greens he has a chance at winning and definitely beating Rahm.
Pick: Justin Thomas (+103)
Bryson DeChambeau/Webb Simpson Matchup Odds
Golfer | Odds at DraftKings |
---|---|
Bryson DeChambeau | -137 |
Webb Simpson | +110 |
DeChambeau Getting Too Technical
Bryson DeChambeau had quite the meltdown at the Memorial Tournament that led to him missing his first cut in a very long time. DeChambeau can bounce back well as he’s played some of the most consistent golf in the past few months.
Even after a week off, I don’t think DeChambeau will be back in his best form. Simpson, on the other hand, has been playing very well since the return of the Tour, even though he also missed the cut at the Memorial.
Amazing to me DeChambeau complains about a TV cameraman being "too close" and filming his temper on a bad bunker shot. —-No. 7 in OWGR.
Rory doesn't complain, not even Reed. So when Bryson gets to No. 1, I may be sympathetic, but I doubt it.

Simpson finished second at this event last year and this course fits his game very well. TPC Southwind only offers two Par 5s as a Par 70, which bodes well for Simpson’s short fairway finder driver swing. The 34-year-old has been lights out with his approach shots as he ranks seventh in Strokes Gained: Approach-to-Green.
DeChambeau has not played well at this course finishing 45th, 48th, and missing the cut in 2017. Simpson is a much better putter than DeChambeau and that could very well be the difference maker.
Pick: Webb Simpson (+110)
Xander Schauffele/Patrick Reed Matchup Odds
Golfer | Odds at DraftKings |
---|---|
Xander Schauffele | -143 |
Patrick Reed | +115 |
Schauffele Shows Up on the Big Stage
Whether you like it or not, Xander Schauffele has cemented himself as one of the top golfers on Tour in the last two years. Since finishing second at the Masters behind Tiger Woods in 2019, Schauffele has had top finishes at some big tournaments.
The 26-year-old finished second at the WGC HSBC Champions, the Tour Championship, and the Sentry Tournament of Champions. Schauffele is bound for another top finish this week against a world-class field.

Schauffele has proven to be a tremendous ball striker in his PGA Tour career. The San Diego State University product is seventh in Strokes Gained: Off-The-Tee and 10th Strokes Gained: Tee-To-Green this season.
Patrick Reed finished 12th at this event last year and 10th in his most recent start at the Memorial. Although Reed has played better than Schauffele at this tournament in the past, I believe Schauffele has a great chance this week to squeak into the top five or even win the tournament.
Pick: Xander Scahuffele (-143)
