  • The Players Championship tees off Thursday, March 13th, 2025
  • Scottie Scheffler is the heavy +360 favorite to win this tournament for the third straight year

After Russell Henley won the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill, the PGA Tour’s best head to Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida for the “fifth major” – the Players Championship. It’s the crown jewel on the schedule, and the field is stacked as it tackles the quirky and confounding TPC Sawgrass, with Scottie Scheffler searching for a record third straight title at this tournament. 48 of the top 50 golfers in the world will be teeing it up (not Bryson DeChambeau or Tyrrell Hatton).

Scheffler is a heavy +360 favorite, in his pursuit for a record third straight Players title. He’s not found the winners circle in four starts this season. He’s followed by 2019 champion Rory McIlroy, who won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am earlier this season. Collin Morikawa, who came up agonizingly close at the Arnold Palmer Invitational Sunday, is tied for the third shortest odds with Xander Schauffele. Ludvig Aberg and Justin Thomas round out the top-five.

Hideki Matsuyama A Strong Contender

2021 Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama always finds himself comfortable at the unpredictable TPC Sawgrass venue. In nine career starts, he’s racked up seven top-25’s, with a fifth place showing in 2023 and a tie for sixth last year. In the last 24 rounds at this track, Matsuyama is first in total strokes gained and ball striking.

He was also the first round leader at the 2020 edition of this championship, but that tournament was wiped out due to COVID-19 after that opening day. This season, the eleven-time PGA Tour champ has tasted victory at the Sentry, and has four top-25’s in the six events after that. He’s +2800 to win outright and to me, that’s quite easily digestible, with six players sporting shorter odds to win than him.

The Players Championship 2025 Picks & Value Bets

  1. Sepp Straka +6000: The big Austrian has won this season (The American Express), and has also posted four top-15s in his five events since, and is coming off a tie for fifth at Bay Hill. He’s second in total strokes gained the last 24 rounds on the circuit.
  2. Michael Kim +9000: Michael Kim has been playing some phenomenal golf of late, going runner-up, a pair of top-15’s, T-6th, then fourth at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. In the last 24 rounds, he’s tops in strokes gained: tee-to-green.
  3. Justin Rose +12000: Justin Rose will be a very intriguing pick in the top 5/10/20 markets. He’s coming off a T-8th at Bay Hill, and was tied for third at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am two starts before that. Was tied for sixth at the Players in 2023.
