Brandon Pfaadt has been called up by Arizona to make his MLB debut here, while the Rangers send left-hander Andrew Heaney to the hill.

Arizona vs Texas Probable Pitchers
The D-Backs will go with their No. 3 prospect Wednesday in Pfaadt, a 24-year-old who they took in the fifth round in the 2020 draft. The right-hander has pitched very well in Triple-A Reno, going 2-1 with a 3.91 ERA in five starts, striking out 30 in 25.1 innings while walking just six.
Pfaadt is also the 51st-best prospect in the minor leagues and truly possesses swing-and-miss stuff, reaching 96 mph on his fastball at times. He also has a solid slider and changeup.
Pfaadt vs Heaney Stats
2-1 | Record | 2-2 |
2.91 | ERA | 4.38 |
25.1 | Innings Pitched | 24.2 |
30 | Strikeouts | 26 |
6 | Walks | 10 |
Heaney is having a respectable campaign thus far as one of the Rangers’ better arms, posting a 2-2 record and 4.38 ERA in five outings. He’s struck out 26 and issued 10 free passes in 24.2 innings and also owns a WHIP of 1.22. With Jacob deGrom now on the IL, Texas really needs Heaney to be at his best.

The southpaw has pitched at least six frames in back-to-back starts, allowing three earned runs in his most recent outing against the Yankees, including two home runs. Heaney has never faced Arizona in his big-league career.
Not a Bad Start For Arizona
Despite having the fourth-worst NL West odds, the Diamondbacks are currently in second place in the division and right on the Dodgers’ heels. Prior to Tuesday, Arizona has won three of the last four and just took two of three from the Rockies, outscoring them 20-5 in the victories.
They’re swinging it better than a lot of MLB lineups around, slashing .264 as a group and scoring five runs per game. Corbin Carroll is the leading catalyst with a .312 average and four homers, but he’s currently sidelined due to injury. Shortstop Geraldo Perdomo meanwhile is hitting .370 with a .574 slugging percentage.
Can Texas Finally Get Back to Playoffs?
With both the Mariners and Astros off to sluggish starts, the Rangers are taking full advantage and sit atop the AL West with a 17-11 record. They just flexed their muscle in a four-game set with the slumping Yankees, winning three.

Although deGrom went on the IL in the series with forearm tightness, there is lots of reason to be positive about this ball club. The offense is clicking both from an average and power standpoint, plus their rotation is relatively consistent.
Diamondbacks vs Rangers Prediction
It’s hard to know what you’ll get from a rookie, even though he’s been dealing in Triple-A. For that reason alone, I’ll take Texas to hit him around and cruise to a victory.
Pick: Rangers moneyline (+100)
