New York vs Miami Probable Pitchers

Peterson makes his first start of 2023 after a respectable season a year ago. The lefty made a career-high 28 appearances including 19 starts, compiling a 7-5 record and 3.83 ERA. While he did walk 48 in 105.2 innings, Peterson showcased swing-and-miss stuff, striking out 126.

The 27-year-old also had no shortage of success against the Marlins, registering a 2.50 ERA in four outings, holding Miami to a .239 average. For what it’s worth, Peterson was lights out in Spring Training, allowing zero runs in 12 innings. He’ll be confident Friday.

Peterson vs Luzardo 2022 Stats

David Peterson
VS
Jesus Luzardo
7-5 Record 4-7
3.83 ERA 3.32
105.2 Innings Pitched 100.1
126 Strikeouts 120
48 Walks 35

While Luzardo only made 18 starts in 22′ due to a forearm injury, he was productive when available. The Florida native went 4-7 with a 3.32 ERA in 100.1 innings, racking up 120 strikeouts in the process. It was his best season to date in the big leagues.

However, Luzardo struggled against a potent Mets lineup last year, collecting a 6.75 ERA in two appearances, allowing seven earned in just 9.1 frames.

Mets vs Marlins Betting Trends

It took some time for the Mets to get going on Opening Day, but the bats eventually came alive. Buck Showalter’s squad scored four of their five runs in the sixth and seventh innings, with Starling Marte and Jeff McNeil leading the way offensively with a pair of hits apiece.

On the bump, Max Scherzer was cruising until he gave up a game-tying two-run home run to Garrett Cooper in the bottom of the sixth. Thankfully, the bullpen held it down for the three-time Cy Young winner after his departure, tossing three clean innings.

NL Cy Young odds favorite Sandy Alcantara wasn’t at his best against the Mets, going just 5.2 innings while surrendering three runs (two earned) on three hits. The biggest issue was his command, walking four. That’s unlike Alcantara.

At the plate, Miami only mustered up five hits and struck out 12 times. Luiz Arraez had a pair of knocks in his regular-season debut with the Marlins and Cooper, as previously mentioned, clubbed a clutch long ball.

Mets vs Marlins Prediction

As you can see, the Mets have won seven of the last 10 against the Marlins. Considering the way they’ve hit Luzardo and how well Peterson pitches vs Miami, I’m liking New York here on the moneyline.

Pick: Mets moneyline (-115)
