This will be Contreras’ second career start against the Reds. He got the win July 7 at Great American Ball Park when he yielded one run over six innings.
Contreras has a 2-1 record and 3.38 ERA on the road this season in eight games (six starts). He is 2-0 with a 1.91 ERA in six games (five starts) during the day. The Pirates are 6-8 when Contreras starts.
Lodolo ended a seven-start winless drought when he had 11 strikeouts in eight innings to beat the Brewers in Milwaukee. He allowed two runs and five hits and did not issue any walks.
This will be Lodolo’s first start against the Pirates. Pittsburgh drafted him in the first round in 2016 following his senior year of high school in La Verne, Calif., but he opted to attend college at TCU.
