The biggest remaining mystery of the NBA offseason finally has an answer: LeBron James is taking his talents to southeastern Pennsylvania. On Friday morning, the four-time NBA champion, four-time finals MVP, and four-time NBA MVP announced he is signing with the Philadelphia 76ers.

Joining a core that already includes Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Jaylen Brown, the 41-year-old James has provided another boost the Sixers’ NBA championship odds.

76ers NBA Championship Odds Shorten Dramatically

The Sixers were trading at just 6¢ in the 2027 NBA championship odds early on Friday morning, which is equivalent to +1567 in American odds and was only third-best in the Eastern Conference, trailing both the reigning-champion New York Knicks (8¢) and Boston Celtics (7¢).

As of the time of writing, Philly’s price has been cut in half. The 76ers are now trading at 12¢ (equal to +733 odds). That price is third-best in the league, behind only the Oklahoma City Thunder (22¢) and San Antonio Spurs (20¢).

Heat Title Odds Tumble

The biggest loser on Friday morning, at least according to the odds, was the Miami Heat. After acquiring Giannis Antetokounmpo earlier in the offseason, Miami was deemed the favorite in the LeBron sweepstakes – after all, James won three titles in South Beach and Miami management is clearly in win-now mode.

Miami’s title odds were trading as short at 14¢ (+614) over the last couple weeks. On Friday morning, that price plummeted to just 4¢ (+2400).

How Effective Will LeBron Be at 41 Years Old?

LeBron is coming off arguably his worst season since his rookie year all the way back in 2003-04. His PPG dipped from 25.2 in 2024-25 to 22.7 in 2025-26, his worst since his first year in the Association. His RPG fell from 8.0 to 6.6, and his APG from 8.5 to 7.8.

The advanced stats bear out the decline. LeBron’s PER of 20.8 was his lowest since his rookie year, as well, and his 27.2 USG% was the lowest of his entire career.

Last season marked the first time since 2003-04 that he wasn’t named to an All-NBA Team.
